More Teleprompter Pics

Teleprompters went back to LBJ

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/01/13/obituaries/13greenfield.html?fta=y

G. K. Greenfield, Executive, Dies at 89
By JENNIFER BAYOT

Published: January 13, 2005

Gordon K. Greenfield, whose QTV brand of teleprompters is used by the White House and in thousands of TV newsrooms, died on Jan. 7 at his home in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. He was 89.

The cause was pneumonia, his family said.

Mr. Greenfield, a veteran business executive, bought QTV when it was a fledgling equipment maker that had recently acquired the rights to the original TelePrompTer, a device for public speakers that displays words on a screen. The company went on to provide prompters to every president since Lyndon B. Johnson.

1. The teleprompter meme is one of the dumbest yet.
I would guess that nearly everyone knows that the POTUS uses a teleprompter and has for decades.

If the Republicans really think that this is going to gain traction, they might have finally managed to underestimate the intelligence of the American public.

3. dumb is not a bad quality for a meme
I used to think this way too: "gosh that is dumb, really dumb, why are they pushing the greek chorus full tilt on that idiocy?", and then it dawned on me that 'dumb' is irrelevant when it comes to memes. What is important is 'the message' and 'the message's consistent communication' and 'the pervasiveness of the message'.

The brainwashing machine is very effective and has very smart people running it. The teleprompter meme works as intended, conveying an effective foil to a serious problem: Obama is smart and articulate, unlike his predecessor or any of the likely 2012 candidates. People perceive him as smart articulate and in charge. That is a big problem for our opponents. Their teleprompter meme attacks 'smart and articulate' with 'it's all fake'. And it is being droned into our collective heads.
