Decency and Common Sense dictate some no-brainer stances
No torture
Healthcare for all
Living wages
Civil Rights for everyone
Election processes/equipment that can not be manipulated
An economy not dependent on perpetual war
A judicious and just judicial system that does not work for the benefit of the Private Prison Industries
A government that is not subservient to vested private (corporate) interests over the welfare of the citizenry in general

Now, does believing those things make me a Leftist, a Socialist, a Progressive, a Democrat, a Green, an Independent? Please help me label myself.

2. You're a Revolutionary.
Well, one would be a revolutionary if one wanted these things immediately (and I'm not suggesting you are among these).

So far, I think "humanitarian" is as good a label as any, but labels are all too subjective.

What I think is reasonable to expect is that we have a president who shares these goals within a vision, and who works toward these within the context of a very complex set of economic, political, and constitutional factors.

Good post, thank you.

4. I'm beginning to think that health care is going nowhere.
First, you have Obama's buddy Warren Buffett (and many others) saying Obama is trying to do to much. At the time I wondered hmmm... are they setting up an excuse for why health care, global warming, etc isn't tackled.

And then it was just reported in the NYT that " At one January meeting to discuss the budget, Mr. Biden railed that the government was in no fiscal shape to pursue a health care overhaul this year — to the dismay of many present and others who heard about it." Of course, they need to get those trillions in bailout for poor Wall Street, the insurance companies, and the investment firms, which have suffered so greatly through no fault of their own, before delivering any bad news.

But on the other hand, I think "insurance company" legislation would help the insurance companies recover their investment losses so maybe there will be something accomplished on the "health care" front, but just not what people are hoping for.

5. It would be VERY interesing to poll these issues here. Observation of posts since mid-'08

lead me to think that these "no-brainers" would not get a lot of support from the bulk of DUers.

Those who unconditionally support these goals are labeled as disloyal to the administration. Leftists/liberals are no longer valued - we are the 20% fringe, as bad as the Bushlers from the centrist perspective.

This is not your father's (if it ever was) Democratic Party anymore.

8. That's what I'm wondering
More and more, I'm starting to feel "kooky" when previously I would have thought that those who did not agree with me were the kooks. The pod people have taken over. I am waiting to be pointed out in the streets by someone yodeling with a reptilian tongue.
