Obama to House Democrats: If we don't do it now. "they will not get done"
Edited on Mon Mar-30-09 06:56 PM by Thrill
From the Politico Rag

In his introductory remarks, POTUS said that he's "as serious as a heart attack" about addressing structural deficits. But Obama also argued that the deficit wasn't caused by items like health care, energy and education -- and that Democrats had a unique opportunity right now to make progress in those areas.
If these initiatives don't get done now, Obama said, "they will not get done," according to someone in the room. -- Patrick O'Connor (6:38 p.m.)

MORE: "I need your vote in passing the budget. If we do that, we will create a sense of momentum that will allow us to do health care reform and education," Obama told Democrats. "If we don't pass the budget, it will empower those critics who don't want to see anything getting done."

Obama took eight questions, from Reps. Nadler, Pallone, Kagen, Woolsey, DeFazio, Farr, Massa and Sutton. To DeFazio, who voted against the stimulus, Obama joked: "Don't think we're not keeping score, brother!"

12. Yeah, it took a few seconds
to find out what was asked and all. And to find out that DeFazio, my Rep, does intend to vote for the budget, as transportation spending increases are in that were important here, and the budget is not the stimulus.
DeFazio was an Obama Superdelegate-'member them Superdelegates?-and campainged for him here. He's also one of the best House members we have got on our side, which is of course Obama's side. Not long ago, candidate Obama got assisted from veteran Congressman DeFazio. The score is not as some here seem to think. DeFazio started ahead before the election, for his support and aid to the candidate now President. The President is not the sort to forget that early and strong support. He knows the score.
He asked about getting more infrasturcture spending into the buget, as he had sought with the stimulus. He got a decent answer as well.
