Odds On Obama Quashing Government-Run Health Insurance?
Edited on Wed Apr-01-09 05:55 PM by MannyGoldstein
I hear that even the Brave Congressional Democrats are in favor of making government-run health insurance available for everyone to buy into. After the $10+ trillion dollar no-banker-left-behind-I-don't-care-if-every-economist-and-every-European-country-thinks-this-is-totally-whacked extravaganza, I don't have a good feeling about Obama letting this go unchallenged.

Somebody please convince me I'm wrong - it's very depressing.

9. That ain't happening. But I do expect universal coverage and either/both
cheaper costs and better service. I can live with this.

12. since it will be through your employer
don't expect it to be cheaper -- and don't expect a magical universal coverage.

that's what you'll live with.

2. Hell, he hasn't undone any of shrub's deals either.
Medicare still can't negotiate lower drug prices and we still have a secret energy policy.

3. Health care is NOT gonna happen
they are not interested in it. Why would they go against their real constituents?

4. No. There will be none but I never was foolish enough to
think there would be. I'm sorry, but I'm just too much of a realist.

5. I think this can wait until more important issues are taken care of.
Let him take on the health system after the economy is in recovery.

7. Health insurance is not an unimportant issue. How many households can run without it?
If the the Congress or even if the Democratic Underground is willing to forgo their insurance until it is important enough to get to I would be with you.

The cost of health insurance effects the economies of significant number of families. How many families can not spend money on other goods and services because they are paying out huge health care premiums. Dare I say a lot of them. A study came out recently that said the for the working class who get a cancer diagnosis one-quarter can not pursue treatment because they have no insurance or are inadequately insured. Yeah, health insurance it just not an important issue.

8. It's an issue that should be addressed with the economy..
since they go hand in hand in this recession. And health care is my #1 issue to begin with.

16. If a single accident, or a serious illness can put you in the poor house..
how is this NOT part of the economic recovery? They want us to "regain our confidence in the economy" and start spending discretionary income... they should take this weight off our shoulders.

13. It might happen-but it will be deceptive-comprised of private companies under a gov't banner
There is no way in hell Obama is going to dismantle private healthcare industry.

If you want it, DEMAND IT because Obama isn't gonna go there on his own.

17. You know what "teasers" are in the horse world?
They are immature ungelded males used solely to test whether or not a mare is in estrus. They usually don't even get to mate. It's kinda sad. I'm so sorry for you.

15. That's not what I heard.. I heard that they plan to
keep the option open to develop such a plan, if the private insurance companies don't get costs lowered by some time (to be determined) in the future...

In other words, the "compromise" is a public plan killer.

18. I think he will support it
It's a pseudo free-market solution to the problem. Private insurance still exists but it has to compete with the government plan.

19. Other countries objecting??????? Most of them already have universal
health care. It's cheaper! Plus the other countries of the world put together do not spend what we do on the defense budget so they have money for their citizens' well-being.
