WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - Orders for U.S.-made factory goods increased 1.8% in February, the first gain after six months of large declines, the Commerce Department reported Thursday. Excluding transportation goods, orders rose 1.6%. Excluding the 36% increase in defense goods, orders rose 0.9%. Orders for nondefense, nonaircraft capital equipment - the kinds of goods businesses invest in to expand or update their productive capacity - jumped 7.1%, revised up from a 6.6% gain reported last week. Orders for durable goods rose an upwardly revised 3.5% in February, also the first gain in seven months. Orders for nondurable goods rose 0.3% in February, led by big increases in chemicals and plastics.

1. My daughter predicted this. She bought stock in some company that makes
cardboard boxes. I thought she was nuts at the time, but she said "Mom, the stock has been going up slowly but consistently since March 9th". Who'd a thunk.

5. Yup. Extra money in the economy is always a good thing.
Though there is lots of money to follow as it is being released a bit at a time.

3. Dubya's economic policies are working!
Because it takes X years for a president's policies to really take effect, where the value of X is determined by Republican bootlickers.

7. I think Paul's going to get himself passed over for the Nobel this year.
And I'm very, very glad for that, as the alternative would have our country in ruin.
