Was Obama's speech in Turkey today "the speech"?
It was a great speech, but was it THE speech he promised to give to a Muslim country in his first 100 days? I asked this before and a couple posters thought maybe he'd give a speech in Turkey or give an unscheduled speech somewhere close to Turkey. Anyone know?

2. Did he say no AFTER he gave it? Or are you talking about when he said no
in a briefing weeks ago (which could've been for security reasons, someone said)?

3. Not sure. I just heard Andrea Mitchell repeat it about 15 minutes ago.
But not sure if she was quoting him from earlier or today

4. Possible... Obama's schedule shows him heading to DC tomorrow after doing a student town hall
in Istanbul

And I just checked his actual promise from barackobama.com... it sounds a lot like what he said today:

http://www.barackobama.com/pdf/CounterterrorismFactSheet.pdf

"Speak Directly to Muslim Audience. Obama will personally lead diplomacy efforts,
beginning with a speech at a major Islamic forum in the first 100 days of his
administration. He will make clear that we are not at war with Islam, that we will
stand with those who are willing to stand up for their future, and that we need their
effort to defeat the prophets of hate and violence. "

5. It wasn't. A reporter from the NY Times just said, on MSNBC, that he'll be giving a speech
Edited on Mon Apr-06-09 01:11 PM by jenmito
in June in a Muslim country, supposedly Egypt. He was talking about his attempt to reach out to the Muslim world, and said, paraphrasing, "What he's trying to accomplish both with his trip to Turkey and his speech coming up in June in Egypt which the White House hasn't announced yet..." Good! Maybe his schedule was revised due to the problems with the economy?
