Regarding Obama on health care...
What are your expectations? What do you require from him on the health care issue to continue giving your support?

Do you have a particular minimum change in mind that is necessary to consider Obama's work on health care good?

What is your timeframe? When do you expect changes to our health care system?

What changes do you expect and when?

1. I expect firm defense of, at the bare minimum, a public insurance option
The way to get such a beast adequately funded, of course, is to start out insisting on single payer as the gold standard.

2. I'm a realist, so I don't expect universal HC, at least not initially.
I want and expect some gorm of basic HC like the ability ti buy into medicare, or some gov't sponsored plan as an option, with current plans to be available by choice. I also expect that the "prior existing condition" BS to go away. Timing is a very hard thing to predict. I would say we would be very lucky if it happened by the end of 2009. This is going to be a very long hard fight.

U wukk wrute ti ny Reo & 2 enators, but I'm afraid it won't be much help. I live in Ga, and akk three are pubs, and damn near everyone around me hates the idea because it;s a liberal idea and they're told to hate anything like that!

12. Realistically, what can be done is highly influenced by what we ATTEMPT to do
An underfunded public option would be a disaster set up to fail from the start. To prevent that, we MUST demand single payer. "Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good" is nonsense as a strategy.

Demand the perfect, and you may get something good.
Demand the good, and you will likely get something so-so.
Demand the so-so, and you are guaranteed to get a total disaster.

Even if you'd accept a kitten, never stop asking for a pony.

3. Obama is not working on health care -
he's working on health insurance. He seems more interested in protecting the for-profit insurers than making sure every American has access to health care.

At the minimum I expect a public, non-profit option that is open to everyone and has coverage that is comparable to what private insurers offer and has realistic reimbursements to providers so that it will be accepted by most doctors and facilities.

I'm not holding my breath and I expect that access to health care in the U.S will become more and more of a privilege.

They seem to be happy with their health care on the whole.

8. I expect the Geiko-ing of medical insurance
Cheaper policies that don't cover shit, but coverage will be more 'affordable' as was promised during the campaign.

Basically status quo but with a shift of one demographic able to make a monthly premium, and a shift of another demographic toward state/federal aid.

10. He's going to make the much needed low hanging fruit reforms needed.
Edited on Tue Apr-07-09 04:42 AM by vaberella
What do I mean, he's going to make the first changes to health care that are extremely important for universal health care to be manageable. Without serious IT changes in Medicare/Medicaid just expect Universal health care to be an EPIC FAIL this goes double for lack of hospital care. Our system is too dodgy and crappy to get a flood of the entire nation.

Not to mention he'd have to work around the laws that protect government workers which will be a trial. What if there is a malpractice suit that is viable, becuase the doctor is a federal worker that means---no suing.

I'm giving him 3 years to make the reform changes..if he gets a second term then I'll make the other changes into 6 years.

11. I had few 'expectations' when I campaigned for him. I have absolutely
none now. He's gone back on his biggest campaign promises, the one's that put him in the White House. He's looted the Treasury for the guys that ruined the economy, his admin is defending telecom spying, and Little Eric want to prosecute more of them evil pot smokers while the 'move on' over the little matters of treason.

He can't disappoint me. I knew his record. All I can say is it's better than Palin/McCain.

And don't give me the 'I want him to fail' pathetic shit. He won't fail. He has corporate Amurika behind him and the NSA covering his ass.

21. I want to talk about Michele's wonderful arms!
or the dog!

If you want to talk about health care, you are a hater.

If you noticed that Obama/Geithner/Summer gave Wall Street the money for our health care system, you are a hater.

If you noticed that we're still being spied upon by our own government, you are a hater.

If you noticed that we have MORE troops in Iraq-Afghanistan, not fewer, you are a hater.

If you noticed that admitted war criminals are still free in our country, you are a hater.

Only if you want to talk about how dreamy the Obama is are you not a hater.

Don't you dare mention the unemployment line (or the even larger numbers of people who aren't even allowed to stand in that line anymore), or you'll be called NEGATIVE!

14. I expect nothing but a sell out
The President seems to be interested not in health care, but in Insurance sales.

My hope is that the President does not think he can simply mandate a large expense to poor and jobless people. Unfunded mandates upon families bring destruction. He seems to be thinking only about how to preserve and increase profit of the companies.

As long as he talks about insurance for profit, he's not talking about healthcare at all. He's just selling a product.

15. I expect the evil Obama to work in partnership with corporate thugs
to keep us alive only long enough to line all their pockets. It's clear that Obama is an evil corporatist who wants to enslave us and torture us all to enrich his pals.

to the barricades!

20. I expect President Hitler McCancer will use this as a ruse to distract us from his evil plans...
He will personally steal all the money from every average American's pocket and grind up all the children in this country into a thin gruel, which he will then serve at fancy DC soirees, for the benefit of all his wall street pals.
