Newt Gingrich - Says That Obama Should Have Ordered A Preemptive Attack on North Korea
It is amazing that one of the most prominent folks in the Republican party gets a free pass for advocating that the U.S. should start a war with North Korea. Where are the reporters asking Republicans to agree with or disavow Newt Gingrich's position? John Lewis says something about John McCain, and Obama suddenly has to personally defend or reject it, but one of the most prominent Republicans spouts craziness on Fox News, and Republicans are given a free pass.

In an appearance on "Fox News Sunday," the Georgia Republican said the White House ought to take decisive action against North Korea, which has defied international pressures and launched a long-range rocket Sunday.

He said for years officials have all but begged North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons program, but no administration has taken decisive action against Pyongyang.

"And one morning, just like 9/11, there's going to be a disaster, and people are going to look around and say, 'Gosh, why didn't anyone think of that?' Well, I'm telling you the time to think about it's before the disaster, not afterward," Gingrich said.

He said Obama should have ordered pre-emptive action to prevent North Korea from making its launch.

"He has some wonderful fantasy idea that we're going to have a great meeting next year," Gingrich said, referring to his desire to resume talks with the communist nation. "I just think it's very dangerous to have a fantasy foreign policy."

3. You mean just like George W. Bush did before N. Korea tested a nuclear weapon...
... or launched test missiles on Bush's watch?

4. If we destroy the world in nuclear fire, then Obama's stimulus plan won't have time to work.
That's the new GOP plan.

5. You first, Newt. The Rat-Phuck GOPygs will be there to back you up.

Oh, that's right. They won't. They're all cowards.

Seeing how well two Republican-initiated wars have worked out let's give Obama and diplomacy a chance.

7. Hey Lizard, I mean Newt, why didn't Bush do that?
Iraq's situation is debatable; but most people knew about NK's antics but Bush wanted to play with everybody else instead.

Besides, we've already LEARNED that being pre-emptive is not a bright thing to do. We cannot afford much more, right now. The world also knows NK is a problem. Everyone needs to band together. We are not the cowboy that rides in on the pony, nor should we.

Granted, something needs to be done quick to show that the world means business when it says "Don't do that". Otherwise NK, Iran, and everyone else will think "All they do is talk, so let's continue and take advantage of things". NK was warned, they defied several world leaders. The UN should be able to come up with a consensus fairly quickly.

If the US has to take charge, then let's do it. But do it right and convince the world they need to be reprimanded by whatever logical means necessary. There is little time to dawdle, IMHO.

President Obama has picked good staff to assess the situation as well; and he and they know more information than we likely ever would. My response is, of course, just my proverbial two cents.

8. Ed Schultz just said this morning that Newt didn't know his ass from third base
It's because Newt gets no security briefings and has no special inside knowledge of such matters these days.

12. Gingrich knows full well he himself wouldn't have done it

This is postering and nothing more.

It'll play well with the declining rabid base of the GOP, but everyone else will think he's just plain nuts.

15. President Palin is something that will never happen

Maybe in some bizarro universe, but not in this one.

We've had our Greg Stillson president and survived him. There's no way America would elect another one in our lifetimes.

These types of comments are likely to give him a boost in the GOP primaries.

22. I think the fantasy is that we COULD shoot it down...
As I recall, every test of these systems has failed miserably, even when we're shooting BOTH rockets and know the exact trajectories and have ideal weather and everything.

Maybe we could scramble pilots to try to gun it down, but our "Star Wars" and such never seem to work... or did they finally figure that out?

I am honestly not sure which is worse -- Newt or the North Koreans?

Newt would have risked starting a war with China over that North Korean dud.
