PLEASE CALL 866-584-3962 and thank President Obama for his commitment to immigration reform!
This number was set up by a coalition of immigration activists and its important that those of us who support comprehensive immigration reform let the White House know we support the President's commitment. The ANTI-IMMIGRATION forces are going to mobilize so we need to be ready.

When you call the number you will get a greeting thanking you for calling, then you will be connected to the White House and placed on hold so that you can speak to an operator.

I would greatly appreciate it if those of you who call or reach out to the White House please respond by kicking and recommending. This is important to many DUers.

7. This is going to be a somewhat hard sell & believe me I am for it. Hope it is looked at as a plus.
Because of the high unemployment in the country I think there will be a lot of people questioning this but in the end it is a good thing to get these people on the "books" and let us move on. We cannot continue to put this off any longer. Other Presidents have done the same thing and until we have a true listing of most of the people in this country more of them can go under the radar that are not good candidates for citizenship. As we know that the race or color of a person does not make someone a good citizen who respects the law.

I personally took my step-daughter and her Mexican born husband to get married in the late 70's from Ohio to VA and then took them to Detroit to get his papers. I had to beg the man to open the door as we arrived 10 minutes after closing. They had 4 children at the time and I thought whatever it took to get this man his papers was worth the effort. The children and now grown and are all working and paying taxes. Isn't that what we want? This will be a good thing for those people who have been here for many years and will help to get them working toward the betterment of our country. At least that is my hope.

:fistbump:

8. Will this amnesty include those crossing illegally now?
Or is there a cutoff date that designates when we will not accept any more illegal immigration?

Will they be eligible for SSI and unemployment if they can't find work?

11. Well you do realize comprehensive immigration reform is a lot more than AMNESTY. . .
. . .and it is very telling that you zero in on that. Obama's plans call for strengthening border enforcement, cracking down on employers and a path to citizenship.

16. telling that we are a nation of laws
We citizens do not get rewarded for following our laws, we get punished for breaking the laws. With 10 million
citizens unemployed and even more without health care, the timing of this is telling us we can't afford it now.

The path to citizenship has been followed by millions for years and rewarding those that do not follow it
is a wrong turn for the worse.

15. I'm sure the comprehensive immigration reform..
plan that he has put forward is available for you to read somewhere...if you care. First it is securing the border..next it is giving those who are in this country illegally an avenue to obtain citizenship..I think there's a fine, a waiting period, and a requirement to speak English. Too bad some freepers can't be included in that one. The amount of money paid into SSI and unemployment by undocumented workers goes in your pocket, not theirs. Seems to me you might like it that way.

9. Immigration reform is so 2006. He's wasting valuable political capital on an issue he didn't
campaign on. Meanwhile he's putting off health care reform (which he did campaign on) until this fall when nobody is going to want to cooperate especially after he polarizes the country with immigration reform. All he's going to do is win the immigrant vote at a time when Americans can't find jobs. Sounds like political malpractice to me. I bet Emmanuel is behind this shit.

It's only been about 80 days. He can't do it all right away.

17. you're right he can't that's why he should put this off until the fall because people weren't
exactly clamoring for immigration reform.

12. when do you think an immigration..
bill will hit the floor? He campaigned on getting Health Care done within what?..his first term? I doubt he's thinking about the "immigrant" vote. At a time when American's can't find jobs, it's important to get some immigration reform going..don't you think?

20. It'll hit the floor before the summer. The democratic congress is about as strong as it's going to
get. We're going to lose seats in 2010 and this gives the republicans an issue to hit him with. Obama doing side issues like this is probably a bad idea so early in his term because it risks failure and that could embolden republicans to put up a bigger fight on health care. No I don't think immigration reform is as important as other issues because he's going to let them stay it's just bad timing.

is not in priority before health care.

22. Maybe so but it's not a sure thing but the prospect of him pissing people off over what basically
has been a dead issue since 2006 is a sure thing. The potential backlash runs the risk of eliminating any gains he makes with Hispanics.

Of course. But they weren't going to vote for him or Democrats anyway. Stop listening to the RW talking points. And MSM with the 'Political Capital' BS. If you listened to them Obama would have lost the 'political capital' with the Budget, Stimulus, Stem Cell, etc....

Its only a hot button with the far right. Obama and Axelrod are very shrewd at the political game

26. Obama has the ability to talk sense into people
It will be good for the economy - people need to understand this - at least those who aren't using it as a shield for their xenophobia.
