Poll question: What are your feelings on the DOJ's actions concerning the wiretapping case?
Edited on Thu Apr-09-09 06:21 PM by mvd
At first I was outraged, but looking at both sides, I see good points on each side. I'm disappointed, but willing to look for explanation and future decisions since this is an ongoing case.

2. I'm disappointed. Especially after learning more about the original Reynolds case
Edited on Thu Apr-09-09 06:22 PM by Aloha Spirit
I posted about Holder's interview which suggests he has reviewed and agrees with the assertion of state secrets in the case
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=8330802&mesg_id=8330802

and then I posted about a WP blog in that thread which links to an analysis of the original precedent, US v Reynolds.

It says that 50 years after the case, the original sensitive information was released to the public, and there was nothing sensitive at all.
In otherwords, the article suggests the DOJ position was a total scam.

edit to add--but I am also encouraged that Holder understands that the public deserves an explanation, and that he plans on presenting the results of their current review soon.

4. I'll withhold my opinion until after Holder's explanation ...
We voted for more TRANSPARENCY in government, so if they're
not going to make evidence public, they need to at least
explain WHY.

5. I thought Holder explained himself well in the Couric interview

I'm okay with the direction he's moving in and realize this is a process, not a slam dunk.

7. I am not educated enough..
in the matter of legalese to make an informed opinion. I tried to read the motion, but didn't get very far before I gave up.

I've read different opinions voicing completely different things. I'll wait for more clarity.
