2. Reagan and Obama Have Essentially the Same Policies
As far as I can tell. Perhaps I'm missing something.

3. Of course. Obama IS Reagan. I mean, think about it...
Reagan dies in 2004, just MONTHS before Obama hits the national stage at the 2004 Democratic Convention.

IT IS NOT A COINCIDENCE!

5. Are you kidding? Obama's budget is everything the opposite of Regan.

7. How So?
The vast bulk of government spending is going to the rich. He's breaking the UAW like Reagan broke PATCO.

8. For one. Tax INCREASES on the rich
Edited on Sun Apr-12-09 12:15 AM by Thrill
You can't even look at Obama's budget and claim its the same as Reagan. Almost 650 Billion for Healthcare reform? His budget is the end of Reaganomics. Even everyone's good friend Paul Krugman has said that.

The situation with GM is much different. If Obama wanted to break the UAW he would of let GM go into bankruptcy two weeks ago, which were the terms of the Bush agreement.

9. GM *Is* Going Into Bankruptcy
Tax changes look fairly minimal - looks like a token effort to appease populist sentiment.

$650 billion for health care reform? What part of that is the gift of $40k per doctor to use electronic medical records? Medicare should simply require their use - US docs already make twice what docs make in other industrialized nations, they don't need another $40k of my hard-earned cash.

10. Again. You said the policies are the same as Reagan
Edited on Sun Apr-12-09 12:52 AM by Thrill
and thats bs. There is nothing in this budget or especially Obama's Stimulus package that even remotely looks like Reagan. Whether it be tax cuts for the middle class, Doubling the amount of money spent on Education, Big investments in alternative energy, Healthcare spending, and investments in transportation and infrastructure. Reagan was the exact opposite of all of that.

You either weren't born when Reagan was President, or choose to let your dislike for Obama cloud your opinion.

And if GM does go bankrupt. It isn't because of anything Obama did like Reagan.

12. The Bankers Are Being Bailed Out For Trillions, While
GM was kept afloat for a few tens of billions until an orderly bankruptcy could proceed. The Paulson/Summers/Summers Banker Bailout has the effect of further enriching the rich, whereas GM's bankruptcy will disproportionately hit the middle class.

Obama's tax cuts are quite minimal, and the odds are that taxes on the wealthy will simply return to what they were under Reagan - actually, the wealthiest Americans will still pay far less than they did under Reagan. Right now, the effective federal tax rate on the wealthiest Americans is far lower than that of the median American (e.g., http://taxprof.typepad.com/taxprof_blog/2007/06/warren-buffet-p.html), and Obama has zero plans to do anything to substantially close that gap.

I didn't say the policies were the *same* - I said "essentially the same". In other words, they end up at the same place.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Hell, there was a difference between Reagan and Bush I.

Obama is more Eisenhower than Raygun. Or maybe a more honest Nixon. If you want to compare him to Republicans, you at least have to go back to a sane one.

6. Of course not. These fools couldn't define socialism if you tattooed the meaning to their eyelids.
