January 2008--GWB launches his push for a Middle East peace agreement with an overseas trip to the region, predicting they would have a treaty signed within 12 months. (That's right, the peace process revolves around the US Presidential Election cycle. Duh.)
April 23, 2008, Jordan's King Abdullah II met with Bush in DC to promote Israeli-Palestian negotiations. Bush also met with Mahmoud Abbas.
Both are expected to meet with Obama later this April in DC.
Bush also visited the Middle East last May.
This all suggests to me that part of Obama's June overseas trip could take him to the region, possibly giving a "major speech" in the heart of the Middle East.

Citing an unnamed Jordanian source, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported Sunday that Abdullah will travel to Washington at the end of April to urge Washington to move ahead with the Arab peace initiative. By doing so, he will meet with Obama before new Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.
Here's a link to the Ha'aretz article, including a report of a phone call between Abbas and Netanyahu:
http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1077984.htmlIt looks like people might have more faith in Obama's ability to steer the process toward resolution than they had in Bush.
