Bill Schneider on this test for Obama re: the pirate situtaion:
"Well, every president faces a test, often in the first year of his presidency, and this was certainly a test for President Obama. President Reagan faced such a test with the professional air traffic controllers strike which he handles very skillfully, and of course the biggest test was president Bush in his first year who faced 9/11. This was also a test for President Obama because the question had been raised, I certainly heard it in the diplomatic community, is he tough enough? Is he strong enough to face a test like this? And he gave the standing order for decisive action to be taken if the commander of the ship was in any immediate danger, and that's exactly what was done, negotiations were taking place with the U. S. government, so clearly, President Obama was very much involved in this, and the successful outcome of this, I think, will be attributed to his leadership."

18. Yes, he is....
Edited on Sun Apr-12-09 06:46 PM by Spazito
He was a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, a right-wing think tank. There are times he can seem reasonable but those are only when he knows that to do his usual slanting reports will be too obvious.

Other fellows include:

Lynne Cheney, John Bolton, Paul Wolfowitz and many more of the same disgusting ilk.

31. The "Miracle on the Hudson" had a similar effect, although Obama was not involved.
Still, it seemed like a good omen at the start of his presidency.

3. Bush's first test was NOT 9/11
It was the collision of the Navy surveillance plane with a Chinese jet. It was a setback for US intelligence.

9. When there's a defensive response, MSM has to suck it up and be "patriotic".
Bush and Cheney got away with TONS of shit without critique due to this phenomenon.

Not least of which, obviously, was Iraq, patriot act, et al.

They understood it and used it quite well.

One which had supported him during the election campaign, as it happened. That was skillful handling? Maybe so, if you hate unions.

More words from Schneider. They're ALL talking about how involved Obama was with this whole thing and they're all saying he passed the test and should now have earned a lot of respect.

30. I can guarantee you that if Obama began talking about single-payer health care
Edited on Mon Apr-13-09 04:15 PM by brentspeak
or drop-kicking K-street lobbyists and Wall St. execs from the White House, Bill Schneider and the other villagers would not be talking about "earning respect" and "toughness". But then again, Obama isn't talking about those things; he's behaving the way the Beltway media and the corporate powers-that-be want him to behave. He isn't disappointing them.

when the question was asked over and over, "Is he qualified?" Thom Hartmann would answer over and over that the thing that qualified Obama was his LEADERSHIP.

23. Is he the guy who asked the question about "climate control" at one of the prez debates?
I just about doubled over in laughter. Was he thinking about his new Caddy? I mean, really, "climate control"?, you know, like re-setting your air conditioning unite. Mercifully, someone quickly came to his defense and said "climate change."

But, if Captain Phillips had been killed then Obama would have failed.
