Lets Just be Honest Here... We are holding Obama to a model in our minds of the perfect President
and quite frankly, the man is flesh and blood. No one could be all to all that is demanded daily in areas like the DU, Daily Kos, Huffington etc. I keep reading, about holding his feet to the fire yadda yadda yadda.. better than we did with Clinton yadda yadda yadda..

Be true to your values, but be honest about it also.. During the last Democratic presidency, we did not have things like DU to air out about, before we could even get the other side of the story.

There is a tremendous amount of jumping on something and shaking fingers before the whole story comes out.

Just saying

1. Not I. I wanted Bill Richardson, "ALL of the troops HOME. NO permanent bases."

2. Not me
I know he will make mistakes, that is to be expected. Those who hold any man out to be perfect and do exactly what they want are fools.

But your larger point is correct abut the knee jerk reactions.

3. ...as most of us do with every president, at least for a while.
That's cool by me. We're supposed to be forming a more perfect Union, and all that.

We've finally got a president who doesn't come off too badly in the comparison, I think.

4. Good point.
I think the biggest problem is that everyone has a different set of priorities, and they all think that the president should work on "their" priorities first! Bush left this county, and the world, in a terrible mess, and a lot of it I think was done in the last few months just to screw up what president Obama could do once he took office. The right wing wanted to tie his hands so he could not deal with health care reform, getting our troops out of the two wars we are in, or making any changes that would affect the big money that controlled things for the last 8 years of the Bush fiasco, and sadly they did a good job of making sure things would be hard for Obama.

We need to give the man some time to do his job, and to set work on his priorities. It will take years to get things done, not a couple of months!

5. We have a lot of DUers here who all believe theirs is the perfect viewpoint
and cannot understand why Obama does jump through their hoops and do things as they believe since they evidently believe they have all of the answers. After 8 years of Bushco they seem not to be able to get out of the pissed off mode.

6. He sought the job
Edited on Mon Apr-13-09 09:43 AM by Kurt_and_Hunter
All presidents must be held to the 'perfect president' standard.

If he's not the best man for the job then what's he doing there?

And if he IS the best man for the job he is the perfect president.

(One of the requirements of the job is that it be held by a human being so the maximums that humanity entails are assumed in all cases. It is understood, for instance, that he is not awake 24 hours a day.)

10. Being possible is one of the traits of the perfect president
An impossible president may be perfect but cannot be a president, by definition.

8. The "model" in MY mind takes into consideration the plight
of the middle class citizens. So far, I haven't seen much in this respect. Hopefully, that will change.

9. I would have liked to see Obama support Habeous Corpus
and the constitution.. instead of continuing Bush's torture poliicy in Afghanistan.

Also, I was very disappointed when Obama supported warrantless wiretapping and spying on American people via Holder and DOJ. (Thant's not change we can believe in)

It's still early.. I hope Mr. Obama changes course on these issues.

11. I'm not. I am holding him to the same standards I hold every President.
The issues I care about today and the same ones I cared about before the elections.

The fact that we have a Dem in office doesn't change my concerns.

That would make me a hypocrite.
