Spare me the outrage Olbermann
Edited on Thu Apr-16-09 08:04 PM by Perky
Ok so here is my problem with Olberman tonight,

The only people he ever hase on his show are people who agree with him. I suppose that is ok on Fox but come on Keith... there are two sides to this issue and its irresponsible to insinuate that's yours is the only viable position on this.

ANd if this was all so incredibly egregegious of the president If this REALLY has you soooo perturbed... why in the hell are you devoting nearly half
of your precious hour devoted to an actor's opinions on right-wing tea-baggers being racists and the dreadully shocking news of sportscaster's retirement?

1. I really liked KO's comment tonight. He was right.
I am also very glad President Obama released those memos. Now it's up to us to make him do the right thing. He said as much during the campaign, and though he may not agree, he will listen. I'm going to pen a long, heartfelt letter and mail it. At least it's something.

CNN. KO is a hero and will forever be.

9. But even among progressives themselves there are a lots of disagreements.
Just read DU for a minute to see that. Yet KO only has on people who agree with him regardless of their ideology. I support the OP on this.

10. Again, there are a lot of us who LOVE that format
and would hate it if KO was nothing more than another Hardball. I wont watch Hardball because of all the right wing shit that is on that show. We NEED a place to hear our side of the story without having to listen to fucking shit from the reichwing.

4. I guess I would take him more seriously if he actually voted.
I'm more concerned about the Bush Administration officials who approved the torturing. Obama and Holder never said anything about not prosecuting them.

7. They don't have to. It's implied in all this "we will look forward, not backward" crap.
I really support Obama in most things, but this is where I draw the line. If he balks on this, he has set a very dangerous precedent. He will have kicked the can down the road and someday it will come back to haunt us all.

5. Keith wants retribution against the Bush Administration
Can you blame him? The Bush Administration was basically a criminal enterprise.

However, can u imagine the media circus and the potential consequences for Obama if he were to prosecute? He could seriously alienate independents and others.

Prosecution could seriously hurt Obama's chances in 2012 if he's seen as en extreme partisan that only wants to attack the past administration. The majority of the American people want to move forward and Obama knows this.

The American people know how much Bush fucked up, but they want Obama to focus on the economy and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Obama knows this and he is looking ahead. This is why Keith is not a politician.

12. Prosecuting criminals is not meant to be politically expedient
Edited on Fri Apr-17-09 08:27 AM by lunatica
It's not about it being pretty or convenient to uphold the law of the land only if it gets you votes. Would Obama hold it up for you or me? We're certainly expendable when it comes to his re-election. Because if his choices in the matter of crimes against humanity and against our country are based on his re-election then he should do the right thing and hope he gets re-elected for that reason. And because no matter what he does he's alienating some faction or other. I feel I'm being marginalized for wanting crimes prosecuted and criminals punished, and it may actually influence how I vote next time. And I like President Obama.

8. I guess. *sigh*
I don't CARE how astute the politics of not prosecuting allegedly is. And I would bet the majority of Americans WANT to see the crooks punished--that it will NOT lose independents or moderates at all--it would be, on the contrary, a highly popular move--not one perceived as merely an attempt at petty revenge.

Not appearing to be seeking mere petty revenge against Nixon sure didn't help Ford any in the '76 election.

14. Media and public wanted Watergate prosecution. Country more concerned with economy, wars now.
Ford and Nixon same party. Maybe some of the clean slate had something to do with Bush coming that close to Gore before the Supremes called it. Clinton looks better than BushCo now, but not in 2000.

And that actor is Janeane Garofalo who is an activist. I'm actually relieved that someone is talking about the torture, because I haven't seen a whole lot of outrage in the media over it.

You have always been a great defender of him. You must be proud. And when someone complains about Fox news you seem to respond by noting what great ratings they have. Hmmmmmmmmm.

18. Obama promised return to rule of law. Good for Olbermann to hold his feet to the fire.
TORTURE IS A SERIOUS CRIME THAT MUST BE PROSECUTED! This was done in our name. I don't know about you but I am not going to sit back and not demand accountability.

24. exactly! We get two
hours of 'liberal' news programming a night and democrats get all up in arms because the man speaks his mind. I don't give a rat's ass if his programming is one sided. I like that The Nation and Think Prgress have been given a voice and face - What other 'news' program does that. I doubt you will find another more balance Constitutional scholar than Turley on any network.

So watch cnn or fixed news, I absolutely certain you will find the liberal voice given full exposure there................when hell freezes over.

26. That other sound you heard ---
was Jonathan Turley being thrown under the bus, right after Keith. :eyes:

We are witnessing the "wingering" of DU -- formerly sane DUers losing their ability to be objective because the Pres has a "D" after their name.

Look for much more of it in coming months.
