1. You support the President regardless of his actions or positions
I don't really understand that.

He made no reference to "no matter what his actions" You made that part up from ether.

the "some" in this case, are the tried and true Obama bashers.

how you are such a stellar mind reader / fortune teller.

Right. People who don't jump to hyperventilations and hyperbole in the wake of an Olbermann comment must be Obamaton Kook-Aid Drinkers...

54. Well, I do...
Supporting the President does not mean supporting all of his actions.

I do not expect perfection from any President, so his administration would have to take some drastic turns to lose my support.

(Unlike the last one, who couldn't do anything right and we knew it from the start)

37. Actually, it might be the other way around.
Some DUers respond to Olbermann "comments" with the exact same lock-step reactionary hyperventilations as Freepers do to a "red siren" headline at sludgereport.

5. The imperial presidency beholden to corporate and financial interests..
.. is the problem, not any one particular
person.

You might have noticed that candidates
outside the power elite and corporate
stranglehold simply don't have a chance
to get elected.

Look at Dennis Kucinich and Howard Dean,
who would have made truly great presidents!

If the CIA threatened to pull a JFK on him, then what the fuck else is he supposed to do? They have more power than all 3 branches of the government and we know they do all kinds of illegal shit in their day to day operations. We don't know what they told him. This is an "if" scenario of course, so take it with a grain of salt, but IF I was in his shoes and was threatened by the CIA I'd probably do exactly what he did. Some folks don't mind being martyred for their cause. I'm secure enough in my own fears to admit wanting to cling to my own life as much as possible. There is a very short list of causes I would die for. Torture prosecution is not on the list.

Edited on Thu Apr-16-09 08:19 PM by Spazito
I am seeing more than a few OPs and posts that are castigating the President for not doing this or that NOW, issues that are in the purview of the DOJ, Obama is expected to simply override the DOJ and get it done NOW, issues that are in the purview of Congress, Obama is expected to ignore Congress and get it done NOW.

Well, when bush did exactly what some people are wanting Obama to do, there was holy hell raised and rightly so. Unlike bush, President Obama is FOLLOWING the rules and the CONSTITUTION and that slows things down but, in the end, it gets it done and done the right way.

Obama is NOT signing executive orders that override the powers of the other juristictions to get things done NOW and that is a DAMN GOOD THING, imo.

27. What the problem is is that it is easy to sit at the keyboard
And decide what should be done and do it with a lot of moral conviction.
But quite another to sit in the oval office and confront the real problems and the enormous consequences of those decisions.
If you don't have faith in this man to do what he can to change things then who do you have faith in?
And if you have someone in mind then how are you going to get him in office?
Like someone said "the art of politics is what is possible"

there are always those that are unhappy and those who disagree with those complaining about how unhappy they are and how everybody else should feel just as unhappy as they are - and vice versa. DU exists to have meltdowns much like free republic I suspect.
