2. oh, I think we can assume he read them
reports are that he's been discussing them for over a month. and he's a very measured sort. I don't think for a minute he'd release something he hadn't throroughly read and chewed over.

3. He probably knows. The real question: does he care?
Apparently we're a "nation of laws", but we also "look forward" and therefore those laws shouldn't be enforced.

9. Do you really believe Obama doesn't care that BushCo tortured?
If so, then you're a very bad judge of character.

12. Here's an old saying
IT's been around a long long time. This old saying.

Actions speak louder than words.

I think it is the essence of the Obama presidency. But not for his fans. For his fans, words speak louder than actions.

you don't know anything about Obama's "fans".

5. I read them...and I'm certain he read them. If you would actually read them
I think you can see why he specifically gave immunity to those who followed the orders of their superiors as they were written at the time. He said he would go after anyone who went outside the orders as they existed. He never said that he wouldn't go after those who ordered and developed the torture protocol. The fact that he released the memos, to me, is putting those who wrote them on notice. It is not only a violation of federal law but a violation of International law and other countries (As John Dean stated) and the Hague may now proceed with prosecutions. The evidence is there.

6. This isn't George Bush. Of course Obama read them. It would help if you actually listened to Obama
and Holder today.

10. That's what Presidents always don't do when they release top secret memos
Reading them before releasing them would not make any sense.

15. I don't even get the outrage. I want big fish not plantation hands.
I do understand being completely disturbed by what went down but I feel some are about a step, or two, three at the most away from executing slaves for picking cotton for slavers.

Getting a high level "decider" or so would be one of the larger victories for Justice in American history. Those demanding and much more so, expecting Nuremberg style down to the lowliest foot soldier prosecution are dreaming and in my opinion, too eager to poke the dragon in his den.

16. Oh I am so with you. The "plantation hands" are small potatoes.
Bush, Cheney, Rove, Rumsfeld, etc. Those are the big names. If they are never taken to task for their crimes then yeah I would not be happy. But the lowly CIA agents who were ordered to torture? Meaningless.
