2. Who is "bashing" him, pray tell?
Looks as if one person's criticism is another person's "bashing."

I guess some people really CAN'T brook any dissent.

We get it. One thread was enough.

You don't agree with criticism, we get that.

Seems some people only post when they have something negative to say about the president. What's up with that?

Why is it so wrong for people to be outraged about this?

Uh, he never said that. He said that those who followed the orders as they were written
and put into place by the previous administration would not be prosecuted. He never said that those who wrote the policys and ordered their subordinates to carry out those policies would not be held accountable. And now that the memos have been released, those who crafted and implemented the policy can be held accountable in the international courts and the hague...as the Nazis were.

16. He said he wasn't going to prosecute the CIA agents
who carried out the torture. I was just following orders is not a reason to let tortures go free.

20. The nazis prosecuted at Nurenburg where the monsters who came up with the "final solution"
They did not prosecute every military officer who was under their command. It was an international court. Just like the Hague prosecuted Milosevich and not every military officer he directed. Also, those who are given immunity are free to testify without self incrimination.

24. If the CIA agents broke the law and they're not going to
testify under oath against the higher ups in the Bush administration then they need to be prosecuted for their crime.

34. That's the whole bloody point.
The torture thing was the law under the Bush Admin. So technically they didn't break it. If you're talking about the Geneva Convention that's something else. But through loopholes and memos that gave warrant to "certain" things they were told to do it. Those people might have done it out of pleasure, duty or what not...but my concern is really the people that gave them the right to do it.

36. It wasn't the law.
The Justice Department can't make law they can only give their interpretation of the law. If individual CIA agents tortured then they need to be prosecuted under Title 18, Part I, Chapter 113C of the U.S. Code.

38. Here is a quote.
"It is our intention to assure those who carried out their duties relying in good faith upon legal advice from the Department of Justice that they will not be subject to prosecution." He is giving a pass to torturers. He hurts himself and America with this decision.

8. Concern noted.. what is this the 15th thread you've posted complaining
about people who are pissed off about torture? I'm sorry, but some things are just a little bit more important than the Pres. I had hope.. I'm thinking its time to dump it all.. these evil fucks who run our govt and tell our elected officials what to do have got to go. Law knows no social status .. it is law. If you get away with it, you don't have laws.. Shall I go rob a bank and tell the judge I thought it ok, since torture was allowed.. so shouldn't robbing banks?

9. Yeah, you said it. This is sad.
But if you don't bash him, then people accuse you of 'drinking the koolaid' or 'blindly supporting him'. Bullshit! I just know who our best hope is right now. It's a President willing to follow the rule of law and listen, along with an electorate that is actively working towards pursuing justice. It's so easy to make a post slamming President Obama. We're more than babies crying to be fed, aren't we? "Obama NEEDS to do this! Obama NEEDS to do that!" This is a representative democracy, people. Get off your asses!!! President Obama is one person. He can't do everything. We need to help.

The Free Republic?

Fox News?

Rush Limbaugh?

Well, yeah. But we don't like their criticism. We only like OUR relentless bashing of a President whose administration is 90 days old.

I haven't been here long, but judging from past meltdowns, all the stupid random threads usually stick around for a couple of days, then it seems to die down. (until the next meltdown) and since they seem to come faster than I can hide/ignore them, I'm not going to bother.

criminal prosecution of the Bush crimes. The very people that were on the fence and voted for Obama will vote independent if the laws of our nation are not upheld.

39. Actually, It seems we have those everyday.
I, too, find it unbelievable, but I'm sort of getting used to it. I don't spend too much time here anymore, so I suppose it's a good thing in a way, but if it continues, I don't see DU lasting for the next 4 years. There are a LOT of people who don't seem to be posting anymore - a lot of longtime DUer's, and to me it's quite noticeable.

It can be maddening, but more than that, it makes me sad. When sticking up for Obama a week or so ago, I was told to leave by a person who'd joined in '08 - and called a bunch of silly names by others - worshipper, etc. I never expected all the bashing of Obama, particularly after the 8 years prior to his election. Disagreements and discussion are one thing - the nitpicking bashing is quite another, and seems to be taking over here.
