A case for using the ignore button.
As most of us have noticed, it's always the same people bitching. It doesn't matter what the president does, they'll always find something wrong with him. Nothing he does will ever be good enough for them.

I truly believe they want to bitch just for the sake of bitching. It's something intrinsic in them. They despise Obama, and have despised him long before he was ever elected president. Why they can't let go of this hate is something I don't understand, but if they aren't over it by now, they never will be.

They feed off anger, especially each others. They want to stay angry, they need to stay angry! They are not interested in discussion, they are only interested in drama.

Now I'm not talking about folks who have genuine disagreements with the president, I'm talking about those who pick apart everything the president does just looking for any excuse to become outraged, and then post some inflammatory nonsense just to get noticed.

I say just let them feed off each other's anger and hate while realizing that no matter what the rest of us say or do, they are determined to complain no matter yet, and no amount of logic and reason is going to change that.

On the hopelessly enraged, I have been using the ignore function liberally. It makes the board a lot more enjoyable, at least for me. I find the hide thread function to be equally beneficial.

I've heard people say using the ignore function is "cowardly." I disagree. It's not that I don't want to hear dissension, it's that I am sick and tired of listening to people bitch! If I wanted to hear endless bitching about Obama, I'd turn on Fox or read FreeRepublic.

So anyway, I just thought I'd put this out. I've seen some good people leave DU or say they are going to leave because of this constant disruption by the naysayers. Then they win. Better to just ignore the troublemakers while those of us who are not consumed by anger celebrate the fact that we, after 8 long years, finally have a president who is smart, intelligent, thoughtful, has exemplary character, tolerant, focused, trustworthy, enthusiastic, inspiring, confident and positive!

1. Why would someone supposedly sensitive to sexism use 'bitching'? nt

2. Yes, absolutely.
But I don't think people truly sensitive to sexism would be loony anti-Obama trolls.

10. I find the over-eager criticizers to be a bit of an annoyance, too.
I certainly 'consider the source' when they get on their high horse about some sort of bullshit "offense" (i.e., Obama hasn't done what THEY want, ergo, he is "evil"). Some of the objections, though, border on trollish. I honestly wonder about the real agenda of a few of these people who position themselves to the left of Kucinich. I think some of them might actually be sitting at the other end of the table, and they're having fun poking the beehive...

...that it makes it hard to take the criticism of Obama on this board seriously.

There's no middle ground for some folk and it's their issue or nothing...

15. Yes. I suggest LIBERAL use of IGNORE.
Such a practice PROGRESSIVELY eliminates the major offenders.

I see no point in wasting time reading the mad rantings of those who wake up every day with a burr under their saddle and their drawers twisted in a bunch. DU gives us the option of IGNORING only the threads a person starts. That works well, because the chronic whiners simply MUST start their own thread on every topic that pops into their head.

I can guarantee you that if you put the worst 50 thread starters on Ignore, your experience at DU will improve immeasurably. Dump them in the grease, and forget them.
