Poll question: Is Obama Pushing Hard To Uphold Our Constitution And Laws?
Seems to be some controversy here.

1. Not hard enough, if you believe upholding requires the enforcement of laws
as well as a commitment to uphold laws in the future.

I don't believe a president can uphold the constitution and laws without holding the office of the executive accountable for following the law. That means, prosecuting criminal conduct even if it is in "the past" - there is no going forward as long as our leaders can commit crimes - crimes against the constitution, crimes against our laws, crimes against humanity, and international war crimes - and get away with it.

2. It's politics right now
I have to agree with other posts I have seen on DU, right not it's all politics. Obama has to play the game so he can win again in 2012. If he gives the right wingers ammo to take him down, he will not be able to accomplish any real changes. I am not happy that Bush is not being investigate, or that Chenney is not in jail already, but I feel that Obama can't go that route, at least not now, without giving the republicans in congress ammo to make gains in 2010, and then possibly taking back the whitehouse in 2012. He is doing things right now that are good for this country, maybe not everything that each of us think "should" be his top priority, but I think he is doing the things that will help him make changes, and keep the republicans from making any gains in 2010. Right now he has made the republicans look like a bunch of school yard idiots, playing childish games because their guy lost. If he can keep them in the rut they are in, it will mean a chance to get the majority in congress needed to do the things that he wanted to do all along, but are now on the back burner because of the mess Bush left the economy in.

I do think he is playing a chess game with the republicans while they self destruct. Since it's only been 3 months, I think we should all chill out and give the man a chance to play his game. He has shown he knows how to win, and how to take advantage of the mistakes others make, and the republicans are making a lot of mistakes right now!
