PHOTOS Uh oh...that Summit of the Americas' opening ceremony
Edited on Fri Apr-17-09 06:21 PM by Jackeens
There are 34 leaders there, the President of Argentina was first to give a speech (lasted about 20 minutes); Daniel Ortega was up second....and he's been talking for at least half an hour and shows no sign of stopping. Do, eh, all 34 leaders give speeches at this thing? They could be there til October.

One hour later:

Two hours later:

Three days later:

October:

I'm guessing this might be next:

PS I liked this:

Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega praised Castro and said the U.S. was punishing Cuba. "And just because of that I cannot feel comfortable attending this summit," Ortega said. "I feel ashamed that I am attending this summit with the absence of Cuba.”
But he makes clear he's not blaming Obama, pulling out a note he says Raul Castro wrote for him about how the summit is opening on the same day as the Bay of Pigs invasion in 1962.

"President Obama was born on August 4, 1961," he read. "He was three-and-a-half months old."

He continued: "Obviously he doesn’t have any responsibility for that historic event."
