Larry Summers did a good job knocking down Gregory's framing
He wouldn't accept the idea that raising taxes on a small percentage of the richest people was a big raise on the American people. He also wouldn't let Gregory get away with saying that letting Bush's tax cuts expire was the same thing as introducing new legislation to raise taxes.

It's easy to do, the framing of the debate here is very weak, it's just that historically Dems let it stay framed that way. It's looking like those days are changing.

1. Gregory hasn't gotten any better, he just spits out right wing talking points and...
...doesn't care how stupid or false they are.

3. I am really disappointed in him
He often did well as a WH correspondent and when he filled in for Russert a few times over the years. But since he took over that awful show last year in the run up to the election and then got the MTP gig, he's been a total status quo tool. Total weak sauce.

5. At least he lets the other side speak. It's a change from MTP with an all-GOP line-up. NT

11. Dick Gregory really suits the times, doesn't he?
Looks the part, acts the part.

It'd be tough to find a better high profile foil than he.

14. You mean David Gregory, don't you? Or are you saying that David Gregory is a dick?

If so, I concur.

2. Good. Gregory is such a douche. David Axlerod was also
on fire on Face The Nation.

4. It's his job to ask questions
Edited on Sun Apr-19-09 10:58 AM by Mudoria
maybe you don't like the questions but I'd rather have that than what the Olbermann show has turned into: namely, guests only come on that agree with Keith's pov. I don't particularly like Gregory but it's his job to elict responses, who knows what some of these clowns will say?

6. It's not the questions by Gregory that is the problem I have with him, it is...
the consistent right-wing slant in which he poses the questions as well as his additional commentary along with the question. Gregory had a spokesperson from each "side" of the issue and NO commentary from him was necessary. Were he genuinely interested in eliciting responses then he would have simply asked, "Does letting the Bush tax cut expire raise taxes on a lot of American citizens?" and then turned to his guests for their responses.

10. Yep, that's the problem with him - I wonder if he's doing the bidding of...
...his puppet masters or looking out for his own pocketbook, and his wive's.

8. David Gregory is worse than Keith...
what good is asking questions, when the questions are bogus? It's like when people say as long as both sides are represented it's okay..but when one side lies, or the interviewer him/herself lies, and it is allowed to be accepted as truth..what's the point?

9. It's one thing to ask questions
another thing to constantly frame the debate to one side when you're supposed to be an unbiased source. Olbermann doesn't claim to be balanced, he's telling something from a certain point of view.

15. Has anyone asked Gregory what his own salary is & if that's why he's so hot and bothered?
At some point I'd like to see a comparison of all the salaries of MSM talking heads, and where they stand as regards the average wage-earners' salaries. I think they are paid very, very well indeed, and that they move in such rarified circles that they really have no idea what it's like for the rest of us at ground level. I think they are being defensive about their own privileged place in the universe, rather than being good reporters or journalists.

And of course I'd love to hear a guest on one of these shows actually bring that up, with handouts.

Not holding my breath here.

Hekate
