Hillary Clinton not pleased with NATO's rules of engagement against Somali Pirates
That's right, Hillary Clinton is not happy with the current rules of engagement against the Somali pirates after they were released by the NATO forces following their failed attack against a Norwegian liner. Secretary Clinton is now advocating that the rules musy be changed to deal with these criminals. She did not looked pleased in the press conference; I hope that the entire NATO community will do something to prevent further attacks against NATO nation ships.

3. It would be interesting to see when the rules of engagement for NATO were written....

and why. It might be worth doing a search, think I might do that.

Edit: It seems there were no previous rules of engagement:

"You know, I don't think we've gotten the rules of engagement yet from NATO," Fitzgerald told reporters on Monday during a briefing on U.S. naval operations in Europe and Africa.

"That's all still being debated in the North Atlantic Council. All we've been told is to prepare a plan to go down there. So (the rules) are going to have to be debated."

5. 'Bam and Hill are the Good Guys. So, it's not a good idea to challenge them or piss them off.
And seizing aid ships is really, really stupid.

6. This pirate thing has gone on for too long. Someone must put a stop
to that nonsense and pressure the Somali government goons to comply...or else!

7. I'm glad to hear this
If NATO's rules prevent holding these criminals for trial, then they need to be updated.

9. What is the point of NATO engaging with enemies if there are no rules of engagement?

10. On the radio they were making fun of NATO.
They were saying that aside from removing the pirates' weapons before releasing them, they took away their eye patches, parrots, peg legs and bottles of rum. No mention of the wenches.

11. I'm curious
as to why you began the body of the post with "That's right'..." Sounds a bit sarcastic, as in a tsk, you'll never believe what she is up to NOW kind of remark....

12. Not sarcastic...just to emphasize that our new SOS is not like our previous
piano-playing Nero Condoleezza Rice. When our SOS speaks now, she means business.

16. While I make no excuse for piracy, the world would do well to think of why it has been growing.
The story has another side to Somali piracy. For years, ships from all over the world have been depleting fish stocks and dumping toxic waste off the horn of Africa, resulting in considerable hardship for the people who live there. And it hasn't helped matters that the area has known nothing but political and economic turmoil in the same period. Many have starved, but others have resorted to desperate acts of piracy and hostage-taking. Again, I state these as reasons, not excuses, but sadly, their form of protest has got completely out of hand, and I'm afraid that the pirate lifestyle has become so ingrained that it will be very difficult to squelch it.

But I believe they can be weaned away from it over time, and a good place to start would involve our NOT overfishing in the area and NOT dumping chemicals there.
