Are we on the Verge of a New Watergate/Iran-Contra level scandal
Ignoring the BS that was the Monica Lewinsky investigations (which was purely politics-driven and at the end of the day...about a blowjob which is not serious in the least), the last true scandal that could have implicated high-level members of government was Iran-Contra in the '80s. Many (including me) still believe both Bush and Reagan knew about it and had a hand in it. But that's a long story and irrelevant to what may be around the corner. There's no doubt Bush 41 led the most corrupt administration since Nixon and it seems like over the past week some of the dirty info is beginning to leak out forcing Obama into an either/or position. I haven't been following the news since Obama's G20 trip and am still trying to catch on the everything. But if Holder and the DoJ go after the Bush administration, we'd be looking at the biggest American scandal since the 1980s.

5. You forgot BCCI and CIA drugrunning... deepsixed by a few powerful Dems protecting Poppy Bush
and his cronies throughout the 90s.

Watergate was NOTHING compared to IranContra, BCCI, Iragate and CIA drugrunning. All those deepsixed matters led DIRECTLY to the return of Bush2, 9-11, and the fast-tracked fascism we've been stuck with for over a decade now.

6. I think we're on the verge of a scandal the likes of which we've never seen before.
Worse than Iran-Contra.

Watergate pales in comparison.

What we have combines aspects of both of those scandals, and adds a totally new dimension of lawlessness, abuse, corruption, and greed to the mix.

Nixon ain't got nothin' on the Idiot Son known as #43.

7. They are each small parts of the same creature
We are like the blind men describing the elephant.

You need to go back probably a century before Watergate to really see the interplay among the major themes: "investment" banking, drug trade, arms dealing, intelligence service involvement in financial markets, money laundering, hidden relationships.

Here are a couple of topics that help start ones voyage of discovery:

1. The opium trade and related wars over the last 200 years.

2. The Russian secret police under the Czar manipulating the German and French financial markets, ultimately benefiting Morgan, with a Panama Canal side story.

3. Harriman, Bush, Walker, et al and arms contracts: Colt vs Remington

4. Investment banks, the Federal Reserve, the World Bank, and the Washington Post. Extra credit for including military intelligence, Israel, and former Senator Bob Graham.

These should be enough to get you started.
