VP-Shock: Biden Less Popular than Cheney
April 23rd, 2009

Double take. Joe Biden is less popular than Dick Cheney. Well, in the first half year of the first term that is.

A slim 51 percent of Americans have a favorable view of Vice President Biden. Cheney was at 58 percent in July 2001. Al Gore, 55 percent in April 1993. The veep comparison comes courtesy of the Pew Research Center's latest report.

Biden's favorability has declined 12 percentage points since January. And don't blame the GOP. Democrats' favorable view of Biden declined from 87 to 76 percent. Independents' view declined from 58 to 46 percent.

In time, it will prove no challenge for Biden to stay ahead of Cheney's favorability rating. Less than a third of Americans had a favorable view of Cheney when he left office in January.

2. I don't see why that's a shocker
Cheney had an image of the brains behind the Bush White House, so it stands to reason that when there were still people that liked Bush that they would like Bush's "brains" too.

Meanwhile, what does Biden have an image of? He's rarely reported on in the news and when he is, it's always about a gaffe or something stupid. Biden is just kind of....there.

Vice President Joe Biden on Saturday urged world leaders to act cautiously when redesigning global financial market regulations, amid growing calls for supervision from nations grappling with the global financial crisis.

No one has to use a credit card.

Another thing, how did he do this alone? He was one senator.

79. You know, I'm as much of a Liberal as anyone else here, but to ask this question is
to profess a level of ignorance that is astounding. Joe Biden is from Delaware, he was the Senator from Delaware.
That is where most banks incorporate. The banking industry was his biggest contributor as a Senator,
and he sponsored and pushed for the changes in the bankruptcy laws that are designed to favor the interests
of the banking industry. As the Senator from Delaware Biden did things to help the state, one was to look
out for the interests of the banks. The banking industry has been gouging creditors legally for years.
I understand your use of semantics defining the use of personal responsibility nonetheless, there is a certain
disingenuousness about it

as more the hope to keep the country safe with party boy bush at the helm. Little did they know what that dark power behind the throne actually was. So this does not surprise me at all, if you consider the context

27. Doesn't surprise me either given how the MSM held him up as some type of hero
or genius after his involvement/performance during the Gulf War under Bush I.

I'd also like to see the numbers of those who answered "no opinion" of Biden, too. That might cut into the positive numbers a bit.

in a frenzy to agree with Sarah Palin that my family should not have equal rights. He's also Mr Credit Card Shill, and no entity is less popular right now than the issuers of credit cards, no business is as abusive to Americans while taking tax money from the same Americans. Joe says nothing about any of it.
He's not Cheney, but then so few are.

I didn't even KNOW much about Cheney until after 9/11/ Remember Bush once had a quite popular rating as did his father after the first Iraq war.
Joe does not force himself into the limelight, he is loyal to Obama and lots of people don't know much about him still. The best thing he has done so far imo is take it to Karl Rove and Cheney and not back down. Being called a liar by Karl Rove is pretty funny stuff.

56. Cheney did come across well in the 2000 campaign.
He appeared warm, thoughtful, and steady (recall his "two nice uncles" debate with Lieberman). The biggest thing I disliked about Bush at the time was his stupidity. I thought it would make him putty in the hands of whatever nefarious but clever advisors surrounded him, and alas, they turned out to be the worst ones possible with the most powerful wind at their backs (9/11), the neocons and PNAC crew. Even I was surprised that Bush and Cheney revealed themselves as radically evil.

66. Not to me! I think Joe Biden is an awesome VP. The media ignores him,
but he is working his cute little butt off for Obama. Traveling all over the country, meeting with business owners that are using the stimulus money, helping Obama get legislation passed thru congress...and more.

He is a great VP, he is working in the shadows of the President.

69. Per Faux poll he has a 59% favorbility rating and 53% approve
Cheney's average was in the high 50's in 2001 so imo they are about the same. Cheney was the so called adult back then. Funny how Faux is higher then Pew though. They must be crying at Faux that Obama has a 62% approval rating from their own poll! http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,517802,00.html

83. FOX???? It's a PEW poll.
A slim 51 percent of Americans have a favorable view of Vice President Biden. Cheney was at 58 percent in July 2001. Al Gore, 55 percent in April 1993. The veep comparison comes courtesy of the Pew Research Center's latest report.

:(

I still don't get how a nice, affable guy like Biden could have ranked lower in his first 100 days in office than a nasty man like Cheney. Even then, he came across as dour and not pleasant.

:-(

97. Because its one poll and probably the average of lots of polls
Edited on Sat Apr-25-09 04:01 PM by Jennicut
taken together would probably be higher. As it is, they usually don't poll much for VP's. I really had to research and find much on even Al Gore (whom I always really liked). I think they polled Cheney more over the years as he got to be less and less popular....13% at the end...ouch. And he still won't shut up!

76. That's unbelievable
I like Obama more than Biden, but what has Biden done to deserve this fate? I know it's only at this point of time for both, but it could be an outlier poll. Would like to see more done.

80. I would dare say that at most households he is too.
That's the weirdness of the PEW poll results, except that as some have pointed out, back then many people didn't know the evil creep that he really is.
