Ed Rollins Gives Obama An "A" For Keeping Country Safe

04/26/09 10:17 AM

As elected Republicans and former Bush administration officials whack the president for pursuing policies - from the closure of Gitmo to the release of torture memos - that "make the country less safe" not everyone in the GOP seems to be getting the same talking points.

Appearing on CNN this past Friday, longtime strategist and Reagan campaign manager Ed Rollins gave Barack Obama an A grade on his handling of national security, insisting the country was just as safe now as it was under George W. Bush.

"I would give him an A," Rollins said. "I don't think we've lost one iota.... He's put a very strong national security team around him and I think he's made some correct decisions early on here that are keeping us safe."

For a bit of humor, check out the facial expression of Rollins' co-panelist, Paul Begala, who clearly was expecting more of a Dick Cheney-like, Obama-has-endangered-the-country response to the national security question.

2. the problem with this is.....
if there is an attack, they will blame him to no end. 1 person doesn't keep a nation safe, yet the GOP acts as if Bush is the main reason there hasn't been an attack since 9.11

3. Actually Ed Rollins is one of the few Rethugs left on tv that does not
act like a complete moron and admits when the Rethugs are wrong. I have been watching him since the beginning of the election and have seen him admit when Dems are doing things right.
Begala is always hilarious.

4. I was stunned when I heard that. A Democrat perceived as solid on national security?
The wingnuts disgracefully eviscerated Senator Kerry, a most honorable Purple Heart recipient, during his presidential bid. This turnabout in political perception of national security is surreal.

5. Ann Coulter loves Obama on this issue too.
Place the Iraq and Afghanistan wars on budget and 3/4ths of every taxpayer dollar in this country is spent on the military industrial complex. I think that is insanity.

If Obama wants to continue this focus on death and destruction he earns no praise from me on this issue.

No wonder Obama earns kudos from the Reagan folks (the RAYgunites), as well as the Jack Welch's of the world (who have destroyed this country's jobs).
