Stupid Repug of the Day: Collins, Pandemic Prep & the Stimulus
Edited on Mon Apr-27-09 12:27 PM by Undercurrent
GOP Stripped Flu Pandemic Preparedness From Stimulus

And playing a critical role was Susan Collins -- for whom the necessity of obtaining her vote is in inverse proportion to the intelligence she shows in policy making:

Famously, Maine Senator Collins, the supposedly moderate Republican who demanded cuts in health care spending in exchange for her support of a watered-down version of the stimulus, fumed about the pandemic funding: "Does it belong in this bill? Should we have $870 million in this bill No, we should not."

Even now,Collins continues to use her official website to highlight the fact that she led the fight to strip the pandemic preparedness money out of the Senate's version of the stimulus measure.

1. don't they realize that a widespread epidemic/pandemic would wipe out
a lot of cheap, uninsured labor, and suddenly the people who do the work for the "wealthy job creators" would suddenly be rare?

Who would clean the shi* off the .01%'s a**es? Certainly not someone who would work cheap any more ...

4. I did,
and yesterday too, before we knew who the specific culprit was.

3. She repeated several times that the funding was important, but it didn't belong in a stimulus.
While I think she's wrong, and not so bright sometimes, she just drew the line at having the funding in the stimulus bill.
She would have approved the funding in the regular budget.
I wish she latched on to some other project to cut to maintain the appearance of quid pro quo.
