FOX says NO to Wednesday Press Conference
The Fox network is sticking with its regular schedule over President Barack Obama this week.

The network is turning down the president's request to show his prime-time news conference on Wednesday. The news conference marks Obama's 100th day in office. Instead of the president, Fox viewers will see an episode of the Tim Roth drama "Lie to Me."

Hopefully he doesn't call on any FOX reporters asking questions.

19. actually, FOX did drop Bush once..
The White House requested a press conference in November 2001 which FOX declined to provide air time for. They gave the same justification as they did this time around; namely, that Fox News covers the press conference anyway and that it was a business decision. Call me crazy, but I'm inclined to believe it. People that get their news from NewsCorp watch Fox News, not FOX.

4. I think that is a pretty safe bet.
Why would he?

This is so foolish -- yet not surprising -- for Faux to do. Let's see if WHO raises that Alert level past 4 -- they may change their minds.

7. Good, my wife will be happy
Seriously, theres no need to see all the channels covering the same event, even if its a Presidential press conference.

9. I agree, running on every network is terribly antiquated
These news conferences should rotate from network to network.

to be more interesting?

You know they'd be right there if bushco ever held a press conference in the last 8 years.

11. Didn't this kind of thing used to be a condition for leasing the public airwaves?
There needs to be some kind of restoration of the concept that when you lease the public airwaves, you have some civic responsibilities that go along with that and not just a responsibility to make as much profit as you possibly can. That should include covering serious presidential events, political conventions, and the news should not be profit driven. It's really not too much to ask for since they get the airwaves every other second besides those few things.

17. I don't think that applies to Faux.
Cable and the people's airwaves are 2 different things.

20. Fox News is cable, Fox is broadcast TV
Unless the particular frequency that Fox broadcasts on doesn't belong to the people for whatever reason.

21. no.
Broadcasters are required to operate in the public interest overall. But they are not required to air particular events as a matter of their first amendment editorial discretion.

22. Not stupid. They have an agenda.
They won't achieve their aim by allowing President Obama to speak to their audience.
