111. He actually did work across aisle in Illinois Senate, he'd give a little
but not compromise on the core of whatever bill...and he'd get a lot of votes from the other party.
I'm sure he did have high hopes here since Dems often went for bush crap even when they were treated like crap. He probably thought treating them with respect, taking some of their ideas, explaining the reason for his positions...would get some cooperation
And got nothing.
So on to the next plan.

63. Basketball players know it does not pay to get "heated"
it's a different game altogether. My impression is that if you have studied Barack Obama's basketball game, you'll have a lot better idea of how he responds to pressure. If you have the game in your blood as a player or fan you'll get a lot closer to understanding why he responds the way he does.

And I have read that if you've played street ball, you'll be better able to predict his responses to "agressive" play against him. Hint: it is neither easy nor hot - more hard and cold, like steel - fast, with a sharp edge. But maybe that's just a rumor.

112. This is why I am now suspecting that there is a faulty communications system
between offices at the White House. I have seen this happen in organizations that should know better. Somebody thinks somebody else is in charge of telling someone else what needs to be done (in this case, discussing how this could be done and realizing it probably can't). This isn't like "Heckuva job Brownie." I think Obama has great people working for him. This is a systems failure, I would be willing to bet...

first of all, why not inform the mayor's office? and but most importantly, isn't this a bit far for a photo op? they flew the AF1 from Andrews to New York for promotional photos? why not some photochop or CGI? most wouldn't know the difference and no one would care...

22. Is the DOD and the FAA out of their ever-loving fekking minds?

"They were making two, maybe three passes," FAA spokesman Jim Peters told News 4 New York. "The and the FAA worked this all out in advance."

A Pentagon official confirmed that while the Presidential Airlift Group, which is based out of Andrews Air Force Base, did inform the FAA and New York City officials about this morning's aerial photo op, they also told both agencies not to inform the public about it.The NYPD confirmed that statement.

the DOD had to have notified someone close to him, or they had to get this signed off by Gates or some other person in his cabinet. That was really a dumb idea. Just fly it over the Ocean and take pics, why do u need it over a landmark? Something doesn't add up. It had to have been some kind of exercise. If not, I want to see the picture.

If the Air Force wants to fly planes around and take pictures, they certainly don't need the president's approval.

That's the sort of thing that filled Bush's days. I'd like to believe that Obama has more important things to do, and does them.

It shouldn't have been important, that is. I understand, I think, how frightening that spectacle could have been. It will give the freeps months of material, as they theorize that this was only a rehearsal for Obama's Sekrit Muslin Cabal.

Caldera would have to be the biggest arrogant asshole in the world for this to be plausible. No one spoke up and said this idea was idiotic? No one said hey if this needs to go down like this let's do it early Sunday morning to cause the least disruption? It is more plausible that someone, or a group of people had an axe to grind and said fuck them, let's do this.

I am not usually a tin foil type of guy, but a simple mistake doesn't cut it for me.

122. Most were....
And most were terrified yesterday looking at the plane flying low and remembered the last time planes flew that low.

There are people on threads on DU making jokes about it - there really is nothing to joke about. Not for those who were in lower Manhattan on 9/11. Were the same people making jokes on 9/11?

And I'm criticized for criticizing a president who took no action except to offer an apology?

104. That is the stoopid
Why on God's earth would anybody think that flying a low plane over NYC made sense? Did somebody just come up with the idea over a bowl of Lucky Charms or something?

They knew -- they knew -- the panic this would create, because they saw thousands of people run like that during the steam pipe explosion, which most people thought was a bomb at first.

And to make things worse, you do it on a beautiful morning that is so reminiscent of 9/11.

It just boggles the mind.

117. The timing was also sucky.
The flyover was done about 1 1/2 hrs. later than the time that the first plane hit the North Tower.

It brought back many memories, none of them pleasant.......

116. I know that area very well, the video was taken in Jersey City, NJ.
That structure in the background is the Colgate Clock and it faces Manhattan. I work a 5 minute walk from it at Exchange Place. My building got the warning that it was a photo op of Air Force One at the last minute and we didn't evacuate. It's the second tallest bldg. in NJ and it would have taken time to evacuate it in its entirety. (the Goldman Sachs monstrosity on the edge of the Hudson river 2 blocks away is the tallest in the state).

Most of us were in NYC on 9/11 and didn't appreciate the stunt (I was actually in the North Tower that morning). From our windows we could see people running outside. It appears that lots of bldgs. didn't get the warning and evacuated.

The whole thing was callous, insensitive and irresponsible. The person in charge should be dismissed.

Especially if you work for Obama and these tortore memos are all the rage?

Authorizing flying a plane in or around Manhattan for anyone in the Obama administration is simple minded, why do it?

I t just doesn't add up.

70. I know what you mean, you're probably right.
There are people who are always supportive and understanding, and who seem incapable of becoming furious or angry.

I love these types and aspire to be that way.

But nothing hurts more than when they do just as you describe.

Like a shaking of the head in disappointment can break your heart.

Know what I mean?

No doubt this is a complete embarrassment, but laying all this at the foot of the President sounds like something a right winger would do. Sure, it's his decision now about what to do with the guy (Caldera), but why not give him at least 24 hours to figure this out, huh?

Talk about jumping the gun.

But use some logic, why the fuck would Obama authorize something like this, it was fucking idiotic and he ain't an idiot. Mr. Caldera knows something or is the just a plain stupid. Now I don't know many stupid people who get law degrees and become president of a University. So an immediate firing may make you feel good for a short time, you don't find out what Caldera knows though.

If "Mr. Obama" is "forever" "not a president at all" to you, then you're making yourself clear that you're not supporting our Democratic president...kind of the reason you'd be in this forum, much less the board.

It's interesting which triggers will cause people to 'out' themselves as not really (ever) supporting the President.

Imagine how much fuel and effort could have been spared from what they did in this stupid act for a "photo op". All they needed to have done was take stock photos/past photos of Air Force one and put "national monuments" behind them....

photograph of a 747, painted in those colors and writing unless Mt. Rushmore has changed somehow, or the type of aircraft or livery has changed.

Neither has, which makes it all the more ridiculous and wasteful.

101. I agree, I had no clue people were that scared until I saw a clip on the News
The Bush Appointee apparently will be changed. Bob Gates had to know too though. I'm sure he's notified every time a fighter Jet and a Presidential plane leaves the runway. I wouldn't think they would ask Obama unless the Fighter Jet was dropping a bomb somewhere. I doubt they tell him every time one of those Presidential Planes are moved. I imagine they test fly them all the time before he gets on it. I refuse to believe Obama signed off on this. The stupidity of this stunt is just too much to believe a man of Obama intellect would agree to this. And on Monday? Why not sunday?

It seems like a lot of hassle for a photo. My tinfoil hat is coming on!

I think it's a test drive of how quick people would react if a plane appeared under 2000ft in NYC airspace.

It could also be a setup by this Bush appointee to give President Obama a hard time.

heck would he approve? There is no political gain, nothing positive to be gleaned from this stupid move. The President has enough on his plate to have to cope with backlash from this. Any sane person would know that the American people would think this was a stupid, expensive thing to do.

Then there is always Photoshop. No-one in the DOD thought about that option?
Why in heck does the DOD need pictures like this anyway?

Caldera: A large crater formed by volcanic explosion or by collapse of a volcanic cone.

He was called into a meeting with Rahm and somebody else. I'm sure he now has a choice of orifices with which to perform his bodily functions. You may also see him on milk cartons.
