14. Actually I don't remember either...
... I'm sure the MSM probably did. But, I don't think they made anything like such a big deal out of it. For example, CNN's huge 100 day extravaganza this Wednesday... you know the one they've been trumpeting every 5 minutes for the last couple of weeks.

2. Probably because
they spoke of it in terms of his already having taken four vacations at that point, not anything about anything concrete he got done.

6. They did. And for Clinton, Bush, and Reagan.
I'm too young to remember Carter's 100 days clearly. It's a common focus of the media, and Obama and Clinton first campaigned on what they'd do their first 100 days.

W had terrible ratings and several issues during his first 100 days, and up until 9-11. The week of 9-11 he was due to have several issues arise, from a lawsuit and possible perjury charge (funeralgate) to increased publicity over his desertion of the National Guard.

8. I didn't want to know.....
100 days at that point were like a thousand days of suffering already.
I was hoping if I avoided calendars and didn't pay attention,
it would pass by quickly. Instead it dragged on and on.

16. Same here
I figured he'd be an ineffectual one term president and we'd just have to sit it out. I thought he was too dumb to do too much damage. I'll never make that mistake again.

10. The agenda was talking up the recession so that tax cuts seemed necessary
& the dire need for star wars missile defense. And, of course cutting brush in crayfish.

11. I found some stuff on CNN.com:
http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2001/bush.100/stories/agenda.html

Acting on his agenda

(click the link for more indepth info on each subject below)

TAX CUTS: Probably the administration's top agenda item, Bush's $1.6 trillion tax cut made it through the House of Representatives, but the package ran into difficulty in the evenly divided Senate.

FAITH-BASED INITIATIVE: One of Bush's signature issues on the campaign trail last year was increasing the ability of faith-based organizations to use government funding for social programs.

CAMPAIGN FINANCE: After years of failure, the Senate in April passed the bill, which would double to $2,000 the cap on so-called "hard money," or direct donations to candidates, and eliminate the unlimited "soft money" donations to political parties.

THE ENVIRONMENT: New environmental regulations issued by President Bill Clinton in his final days in office forced Bush to focus unexpectedly on the environment.

BIPARTISANSHIP: Bush promised to "change the tone" in the nation's capital by emphasizing bipartisanship and working with Democrats.

EDUCATION: Bush sent an education bill to Congress just six days after being inaugurated.

MISSILE DEFENSE: Bush has made building a national missile defense system a top priority despite objections from European allies and other countries.

April 25, 2001: 'Relaxed' Bush cites progress on tax, education plans

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush said Wednesday he felt "pretty darn good" about the job he is doing, citing progress on a tax cut and negotiations with Democrats on his education agenda.

In a wide-ranging interview, Bush also said the United States would "help Taiwan defend herself" against China if necessary.

An upbeat Bush also acknowledged a more low-key style than his predecessor, former President Clinton, and professed his honor in working in the Oval Office as the nation's 43rd president.

"I feel free and relaxed," Bush said. "I feel comfortable; perhaps that's because I'm on bended knee every morning, asking for guidance and for comfort. Whatever the reasons, I'm enjoying myself."

27. well, I remember one tiny blurb (unrelated to W) about Osama bin Laden
being tied into the USS Cole bombing in Oct 2000 ... but hey, Saddam Hussein was still corralled in his tiny area, with no-fly-zones in place, (with Rupert Murdoch working with the Communist Chinese to set up satellite dishes in Iraq ... forgot about that, eh?) and toothless ... but Bush was talking about the threat from Saddam ...

39. I remember it.
I remember saying to myself, "oh my god, it's even worse than I thought." I remember openly speculating on which war Bush would start first, and the general consensus was that it would be Iraq.

Bush's first 100 days were typically incompetent and malevolent at the same time. Most of his time and effort was spent sucking off his corporate and individual benefactors, and finding jobs for his army of sociopathic political hit-men. And, of course, concealing everything they did in a cloud of deceit.

I recall that the press immediately retracted its claws and allowed all this to happen with minimal comment.
