Nice talking point for the Dems to work with. Remember Zell's "My Party No More" crap? Same thing here, in reverse.

"Since my election in 1980, as part of the Reagan Big Tent, the Republican Party has moved far to the right. Last year, more than 200,000 Republicans in Pennsylvania changed their registration to become Democrats. I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans."

1. I'll be interested to see how often he votes with us on cloture.
That's what'll tell us if this was a good move or a bad move for us.

2. he
also said "But, this is one less Republican vote that Obama will be able to say he had on a lot of issues". Oh, screw bipartisanship. Though I definitely can see Specter voting Repub a lot and the Republicans getting the bozo bs "bipartisanship" bragging points. They said on MSNBC that Obama got handed a note about Specter switching parties in a meeting though, that's pretty cool. Will he be of any use to us though>

12. well, it's def not good for Republicans
but I kind of don't want him either, heh. I wonder if his voting patterns will stay exactly the same. Or if he'll be one of Bayh's new cohorts.

3. I wonder if the torture memos had anything to do with this decision
He's absolutely correct though, the republican party is barely recognizable. They abandoned all economic principles while in power and their only tactic out of power is to disagree with whatever the POTUS says. It's not a political party, but a mere "mean girl" clique.

That is what I used to say also. The difference - I said it in 1963.

13. I thought the same thing when I heard him say that. This is a symptom of the "shrinkage" of the
Repub. party and it's bigger than whether Specter will vote all the time with the Dems. or not. It's just more proof that the Repubs. have become more of a CONSERVATIVE party than a Repub. party.
