Miss California to Campaign Against Gay Marriage
Edited on Thu Apr-30-09 07:44 AM by SuperTrouper
NEW YORK – The reigning Miss California has gone to Washington to help launch a campaign opposing same-sex marriage.

Carrie Prejean told NBC's "Today" show Thursday that she'll be working with the National Organization for Marriage to "protect traditional marriages."

The 21-year-old says that marriage is "something that is very dear to my heart" and she's in Washington to help save it.

She says many people have thanked her for standing up for traditional marriage.

Prejean was named the first runner-up to Miss North Carolina in the Miss USA pageant April 19. Her response to celebrity blogger Perez Hilton's question about legalizing same-sex marriage may have cost her the title

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Matt Lauer mentioned to her that now, as the darling of the Conservatives, she has been compared to Sarah Palin. He asked her what she thought about the comparison and Miss Prejean told him that "the only thing we have in common is that we are beauty queens and I have no plans to run for political office in a long, long time"

4. So this woman is going to fly the length of the continent to battle for
traditional marriage.

I hope she somehow gets an airplane seat next to Gore Vidal.

That would be an illuminating flight for Ms. Prejean.

....how ANYONE could muster up the argument that allowing people who love each other (who happen to be the same gender) to get married THREATENS their own marriage!?!??!

These people make me laugh at them. They do not even realize how stupid they are acting.

We have nothing to fear. In fact, she is a horrendous, pathetic spokesperson.

She is about as sharp as a sack of wet mice, and was totally unable to articulate
one salient point.

She kept looking down at notes!!! They only have her a line or two, and still, she
couldn't pull it off.

She kept repeating, "I'm just protecting marriage". She must have said it twenty times.

That sentence doesn't even make sense. Millions of Americans were looking at their
television screens, wondering why this nimrod feels that she needs to protect something
that isn't threatened.

Don't worry folks...she's pitiful. She makes Palin look like a Rhodes Scholar.

Think back to when you were 21. Would you want movies of that time shown anywhere? 21-year-olds are still children and this silly girl is going to regret becoming a tool for the right wingnuts. She will be dismissed and discounted for the rest of her short period of fame and will be relegated to the bottom of the dizzy blonde pile along with Joe the Plumber.

21. When I was 21
I was an active in several self chosen areas, from fighting racism and homophobia to ending aparthied, to participating in clinic defenses. I was already accomplished in my field, well versed in my interests, willing and able to speak my part as needed.
My life at 21 was and is an open book. I'm proud of that time. I did good stuff. To claim that it is her age and not her mind that is the issue here is an insult to everyone who is young, and to those of use who were both young and were not like that idiot. Sorry. But it is not her age. All the contestants are that young. Did they all display intolerance wrapped in ignorance and topped off my a lack of vocabulary power? No, they did not.
Some folks at 21 are heros, and that is just how it is. Some are also fully formed fools at 21.

OK... just saw the clip on MSNBC and I really am wondering :wtf:

Is she serious? Is she really going to go down this road? I thought her response in the pageant may have been a nervous mistake or something because she was very inarticulate--but now she has shown without a doubt that she truly is a bigot with a lot of time on her hands. She has pretty much limited her future to Fox News! Who the hell is advising this woman?

34. Perez Called for her to give back her Miss Ca. crown and I agree, she doesn't represent my state.
I'm not sure who to write to, since the the Miss California organizations site looks like a 12 year old made it and has no contact info also no update showing Prejean as the current title holder, however if there is a site we can find, we should write to it and demand they strip her of the miss California crown. She is engaging is activity unbecoming of a pageant queen and does not represent her state.

went for Obama by 3.2 MILLION votes... but went for Prop. 8 by 600,000 votes.

Logic suggest that nearly 4 MILLION California DEMS flipped on GAY MARRIAGE...

So actually she DOES represent her state.

this is a commentary on the people of California... dumb as a bag of rocks.

My libertarian blood just boils at the thought of these people with their HOPE/CHANGE bumper stickers and their BUSH lied People died and their 9-11 "Loose Change" DVD's...

But they won't let a guy marry his partner of like 20 years??? Or let a woman visit her dying partner of 40 years in a hospital...

Hypocrite pieces of shit. They're content in their little mini-van, clean washed driveway, tip the gardener world... HOPE! CHANGE! Gay Marriage, ewwwwwww...

45. Seriously, aren't there rules against advocating controversial political positions as Miss whatever?
I mean seriously, you think the people who organize Miss America contests, or Miss contests want their winner to go around strongly advocating positions on highly controversial political issues all over the place in public? It's one thing if you're asked the question in the contest, it's another thing to do TV ads for political groups.

I mean really, there was controversy about Miss New Jersey a few years ago when some pictures of her at a party surfaced on the Internet that almost lost her the crown. The only reason it didn't was because rules like that technically weren't written into her contract, but would be for future Miss New Jerseys. The pictures weren't even pornographic or anything, just her doing some silly poses while drunk probably.

With all the important issues out there that you could be using your fifteen minutes of fame to bring attention to, you're worried about the oh-so-endangered institution of "opposite marriage."

What a waste....

Then again, I'm not sure anyone would take you seriously if you were speaking out about something that mattered, so I guess it's better you're wasting your time on something irrelevant.
