14. how?
She is way less qualified than basically any federal judge and many state court judges. She hasn't even practiced law in decades. SOS is a much better match to her skills and abilities.

19. Well, according to the constitution, there are no qualifications at all.
to serve on SCOTUS.

As for her personal skills and professional / academic experience, they are well known. Of course, Hillary could have continued on the legal professional route after graduating from law school and practicing for Rose Law but she chose parenthood and public service instead. I would put her intellectual acumen and professionalism up against anyone. Hillary's a proven "progressive" (though some may challenge that assertion) and, especially once the "politics" are removed, she would be a stalwart champion of the cause.

39. The Constitution doesn't state a lot of things specifically, but these are implicitly understood and

the historical precedent exists.

The RW loves to use whatever they consider Constitutionally vague to bolster their arguments, the left needs to avoid doing that.

The Constitution doesn't specifically state qualifications for President either, but as Bush proved, we should avoid electing morons.

Heads. Exploding. So many of them. :)

Can you explain why you think so, and why she would be preferable to all the other senior female judges and legal scholars available?

13. God no...
Why would we put someone who hasn't practiced law in years, and may have never even given an oral argument in the most important court in the country? Hillary is great but she is not superwoman. Leave being a judge to people with more relevant experience, like judges, con law scholars, or lawyers who argue before the S Ct. on a regular basis.

18. Some of the best justices weren't judges
Earl Warren and Hugo Black, for example, were politicians - it is only in recent decades that the Court has come to be exclusively occupied by former justices and lawyers.

That being said, Hillary should stay at State, where she just joined.

As smart as she is, I think her relative lack of relevant experience is a drawback. I'd like a jurist/scholar.

AND I think she's doing very well at State.

16. that would be neat
but no. She has a job, and I don't see her giving it up that easily since she just started. I think it was a difficult enough decision for her to be SOS, and now that she is, she'll want to stick with it (as I think she should, for now at least).

She would make an excellent justice. But I think Obama will go for someone younger. And she is doing an excellent job at State. Either way, I hope it's a woman, so many qualified women out there.

38. nope. she's doing well as sec of state and would be an odd choice
for Obama's first SCOTUS nomination. He should and will stick to experienced judges or legal scholars as the universe from which he will choose, not a politician
