There's no going back on this one, no waffling, no bipartisanship bullshit. This is for reals, for keeps, and he's got an appropriate enough background in constitutional law to know what he's doing on this one.

"By their works you shall know them" - or in this case, by their SCOTUS picks you will know them

3. The nation's first black president is obligated to pick a latino???
That's absurd.

4. He will most certainly pick a woman.
And if I could place a bet, I would say she will be Hispanic.

He doesn't have to obviously, but it certainly wouldn't surprise me.

As long as he picks a liberal, I am fine with it. But (as you said) he isn't obligated regarding race.

5. I disagree
he has already passed all the "tests". He will pick a fine solid liberal, some will complain of course, but they always do.

7. True, SCOTUS picks are the longest lasting legacy of a presidency.
signing statements, EO's, even legislation can all be readily reversed. But a SCOTUS pick is for life, and will affect the direction of the country long after the President leaves office. I think Obama will make a very wise choice. It may not be a woman or minority (this time), but it <will> be someone eminently qualified.
