TIME: Dick Cheney: Why So Chatty All of a Sudden?

Dick Cheney: Why So Chatty All of a Sudden?

By MICHAEL DUFFY / WASHINGTON Michael Duffy / Washington

http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/08599189785000

"In the past few days, former Vice President Dick Cheney has appeared on CBS's Face the Nation and Fox News to defend the Bush team's harsh interrogation practices. His daughter Liz has done a turn on MSNBC to echo her father. Next week, Cheney is scheduled to give a speech called "Keeping America Safe" at the American Enterprise Institute. "

snip:"A more likely explanation is that Cheney, who championed the idea of preemptive-attack doctrine as Vice President, knows that in politics as well the best defense is often a good offense. With the White House decision to release various Bush-era memos on interrogation, and the coming disclosure of thousands more photographs from Abu Ghraib later this month, Cheney is "trying to rewrite history," says a Republican consultant who has experience in intelligence matters. "He knows that as time goes by, he will look worse. And so he's trying to put his stroke on it.

Cheney obliquely conceded as much on Sunday, when he told CBS's Bob Scheiffer, "I think it's very, very important that we have a clear understanding that what happened here was an honorable approach to defending the nation, that there was nothing devious or deceitful or dishonest or illegal about what was done." That sounds like: O.K., we got a little out of hand. But we meant well. So how 'bout we just let it go? " "

snip: "A far darker explanation for the spring offensive isn't about the past but the future. Obama officials have spied something like a set-up in Cheney's latest gambit. One of the Bush team's biggest talking points in its final days in office was an insistence that its greatest accomplishment was preventing a second attack in the years after Sept. 11. By laying down the charge now that Obama has made the country less safe, the Bush team may be able to point fingers of blame if a second attack ever comes. "

snip: "In any case, Cheney's reappearance has delighted Democrats - "Bring it on!" quipped a White House official on Tuesday afternoon, when asked about Cheney's re-emergence - and dismayed Republicans. Said one: "We're trying to turn the page, and he's climbing out of the grave to haunt us." "

1. Interesting that the Bush/Cheney administration's main focus now is
to set up a big "I told you so" and revel in the next terror attack, whenever that comes. Why aren't they hanging from the gallows yet, these traitors?

3. You get the feeling these guys are praying for an attack..
When they were the ones who ignored the Clinton team for months and we did get attacked. A little projection on their part

5. Thye're sick and evil. I can never understand why America didn't blame them
for 9/11, why they got credit for "keeping us safe" when they clearly didn't. And now they want it to happen again, so that they can giggle and point fingers. I hope they all burn in hell.

7. Twilight.. there were over 8 years between the original attack on the WTC
and 9/11.. Clinton kept us safe for 8 years, and even warned those bean heads. We need to turn this story around pronto

14. "America didn't blame them for 9/11" because
the corporatemedia covered up for them with frothing excitment over the ratings and their tax cuts. Traitors.

But, the truth is coming out now..I heard a general defending Colin Powell the other day on a Political Video say it was cheney's watch on which 9/11 happened.

8. Or maybe setting it up?
They aren't above that. We know from history that they don't mind paying off terrorists and death squads to get their business done.

6. Democrats NEED to Treat Cheney the Way Repukes Treated Al Gore
And they need to remind Dick, vigilantly, it's time for him to shut up and go skulk somewhere.

12. He's so delusional that he really thought he was untouchable
Now that he can't go hide in his secret bunker reality is starting to set in a bit and he's scrambling to save his ass. It doesn't matter how we treat him . . . if he thinks he's going to get locked up he WILL keep putting his propaganda out there and he will lie all day till he finally has that last coronary.

17. I really hope so. I think so but its hard to know how far his power
still reaches. My point was just that he's so out of touch with reality that he didn't seem to think that his crimes would ever catch up with him which made him very smug but now he's got to be worried and that's why he's squawking.

20. He's tapping as fast as he can.
Give 'em the old razzle dazzle
Razzle Dazzle 'em
Give 'em an act with lots of flash in it
And the reaction will be passionate
Give 'em the old hocus pocus
Bead and feather 'em
How can they see with sequins in their eyes?
What if your hinges all are rusting?
What if, in fact, you're just disgusting?
Razzle dazzle 'em
And they'll never catch wise!
