What purpose does publishing the Holocaust photos have? If those who perpetrated the acts have been
prosecuted why bother possibly inflaming tensions?

*In response to yet another torture-apologist thread...*

1. They are testimony against the Holocast Deniers. I'll admit
The photos really need to be released.

3. So that we will not forget, is what is said about the holocaust.
So people know what happens when people lose empathy, follow blindly with nationalism, and do not keep their leaders under control through good education, quality media, and the upholding of laws.

5. I don't think anyone's arguing that they be immediately destroyed, or
never released (new photos). It's the timing--we're still at war in two Islamic countries, we've got a lot of patching up and mending to do, and we've got a lot of military and diplomatic personnel who don't need to be victims of acts of retribution just to satisfy our curiosity right this moment.

10. Useless post
I am sorry, but the "stop talking sense" type of post is the most sycophantic, piling-on, cliquish, ass-kissing types of posts that this site has. If you have nothing to contribute but your simple agreement, nod your head in silence....there is no need for the high-five bullshit wasting band-width.

Sorry but the shit doesn't float...Also..the military personnel are in war zones and they have weapons...that's their job...And this has bugger all to do with 'curiosity' it is so the American people can see what has been done in their name...and understand the shame that Lt AWOL and his gang of war criminals has brought upon this great country...

Nazi photos are released?

11. Whose innocent lives are on the line?
Our soldiers? They are not innocent, which is why soldiers are legal targets in war.

They are there to kill people and take their territory, and you call them innocent? LOL. Nice spin. Looks like those people you criticize are not the only ones that "need to get a fucking clue.

8. I'm starting to drift.
If someone who started out with such promise ends up becoming even somewhat like Bush, I'm done. Don't release the photos. Fine. Say it is because it will put our troops in danger, but for the love of Christ, prosecute these fucking animals, because the Republicans are defending this shit. We all know that as soon as they get in power again (god forbid), they will start torturing and starting pre-emptive wars because to these scared, balless slime, EVERYONE is their enemy. If President Obama does neither, why in the fuck would I bother voting for him again? It hurts worse to see a good person do shitty things, than to watch a morally corrupt piece of shit do them. At least you aren't devestated when the POS behaves like a POS. Perhaps the President has a good reason, but there's none that I can see right now. This seems very familiar. It's shit that Bush pulled time and time again.

9. Good point - it's one or the other
First, let me say that it's not the pictures that will inflame people, it's the acts - the acts that have already been committed. Nothing will change this simple fact. We will pay for this one way or another, either in physical retribution or just in really bad karma if nothing else.
Obama cannot have it both ways. If he get his way with the release, then he has to lead the charge for prosecutions. If he loses his appeal, he will look bad for not "looking behind".

12. Does it have to be TODAY? I'm willing to let this play out a bit.
I believe they need ultimately to be released. I'm willing to consider this may be only the first step in a more complex dance.

21. I know. I am too. An economic recovery plan (and team of experts) that is suspiciously like Bush's.
No real foreclosure relief for the average homeowner. Health care reform efforts that are now going to proceed behind closed doors a la Cheney's secret energy meetings. Foot dragging on DADT alongside no gays in cabinet or any other important posts and resistance to equality for gay civil rights. Backtracking on warrantless wiretapping. More troops for more war (in the "good war" - Afghanistan?? WTF?) And this is just what I can remember 2 glasses of wine to the wind....

I'm just really disheartened. These are hugely important issues and Obama's response looks a lot like the Bush Admin. And now this: no investigations on torture, no prosecuting on torture... just more cover-up and deceit.

16. Great question
I don't see how we heal and move on from this if we don't fully address our actions. I also don't see how we demand human rights from other countries while sweeping our own atrocities under the rug.
