1. I don't think he ever specifically did.

The claim of "broken promise" being made by the ACLU and others regards Obama's promise to have an open, transparent presidency.

3. When it comes to the safety of our troops, however, I'll gladly do without the transparency.

2. I though he campaigned on increasing government secrecy and for a closed society.
Didn't he?

7. It's not about an "upside"
It's about doing what is right. Do we have principles or is every situation to be reduced to cold political decisions?

8. Okay. Can you explain why releasing the photos would be "right"?

10. Because it is good evidence that BushCo needs prosecuted
Because its a sign that America has pulled her collective head from beneath the sand and we're owning up to the wrong that was done in our name.

Because the rest of the world is way ahead of us in understanding how badly we have behaved.

Because those who are being said to have a problem with the pictures and who might try to harm us or our troops already know without a shadow of a doubt that what has been done has been done.

Because if the photos from Abu Ghraib didn't cause a problem, these won't either.

14. The 10 day period following release of the AG photos resulted in a 200%
increase in attacks on U.S. Troops.

13. See my post #10...
And add to that...

There are a lot of idiots in this country who still support Bush and Cheney, and they are going along with whatever BushCo says TO THIS DAY! They do not believe there was torture, or that what went on was indeed torture. We need to school ourselves on how heinous freaks like BushCo can be, or we are doomed to let them be in charge again.

16. To counteract the obsfucation
by Cheney, the corporate press, and other apologists. According to latest polls they've successfully convinced 50% of the U.S. public believe that torture is a necessary evil. This is repulsive.

Publishing these photos will have a similar effect on public opinion that broadcasting images of the Vietnam war did.
