ASU Could Not Have Dreamt of a Better Commencement Address.
:applause:

What a shame that some were so disrespectful in the matter of an honorary degree.

In typical fashion, the President didn't let that affect the power of his address.

THAT is CLASS, Class of 2009.

:patriot:

7. nt or n/t means "no text"
What you would write in the subject line if you have no other comment.

Also used, "eom" meaning "end of message".

10. It was a wonderful address watched it all on MSNBC
Obama used the denial of the degreee to give a great address encouraging each and every student to build a body of work to nurture others, repair communities and repair our nation. It was wonderful and seemed to be well received.

11. Did you catch the dig about honorary degrees?
And then the entire speech being about a lifetime "body of work". It was fantastic on so many levels. One of his best.

14. Agreed. Will be up there as one of his best.
Too bad those at CNN didn't "get" that he was talking to all of us, not just the graduating class of 2009! Oh well, brick walls are hard to break through.

16. Yeah, that's very clever and disarming.
He deflated the drama by calling it out, then moved right along.

I love it!

15. A beautiful speech about making an impact on the world...
The President's speeches are always so timely and meaningful.

He said it so well--to strive to make a difference, instead of earning "gold stars" and a lot of money. Work for a non-profit,
teach children from impoverished neighborhoods, work for free clinics.

I loved it when he said, "Find someone to be successful for". Isn't that so amazing???????????

I'm still contemplating the beauty of that statement.

We should all do something successful with our lives that will make a difference--for the planet, for a child, for a neighborhood.

17. I liked the end, people in need just know you care
Not whether you have status or notoriety or even know what you want to do with your life. I loved that. You can always be useful to somebody.

18. I was also impressed by the points he made about doing things that others depend upon...
And the analogy to parenting, that it's more than reproduction...

Classic Obama, living our lives for the impact our deeds have on others.

Perfect.

How were the crowds, other than any protesters, were they impressed and respectful?

22. The behavior of the crowds was fine, although there were so many people
frequently confined to small areas that it was often uncomfortable.

ASU did not plan the event well at all, even apart from the honorary degree fiasco.

I didn't notice many protesters, and those I did notice were not very disruptive.
