Release the photos.... after our troops are out of the middle east

Having any more soldiers die because of Chimpy and Cheney's actions would be reprehensible and Obama made the wise choice.

When our troops are no longer in harm's way in Iraq.... hopefully in about 16 to 20 months.... then release the photos.

Doing so now would be irresponsible by Obama.

I have two cousins still in Iraq. Your sense of "justice NOW!" doesn't trump their lives.

You may now commence with calling me a freeper, asking about the kneepads I wear when I "bow down" before Obama, and asking what flavor koolaid I drink.

You're still wrong.

2. I won't call you anything except
a kindred spirit.

I don't have loved ones over there right now, but that doesn't stop my caring about those who are.

It seems to be oh so easy to discount the lives of those who are over there. I can't do that.

Glad to rec. your post.

:hi:

5. I agree 100%. Until they are out of harms way, I see no value in
releasing photos.

8. If the combat troops aren't out of Iraq by the end of 2010, I'll be as enraged as anyone

That's where my family is.

But I believe that they will be.

Sure.. there will be a residual force.... but going from 130,000 down to about 10,000 (of which, most won't be in harm's way) is ok with me.

If Obama doesn't come through there, I will be on board with you.

11. and there were troops there when some of the Abu Ghraib photos came out, i didn't
see too many people complaining about those photos being made public. My nephew was there at the time.

10. This is more about Afghanistan and Pakistan than Iraq.
Edited on Wed May-13-09 11:40 PM by Patsy Stone
We're (mostly) leaving Iraq eventually, but we're just getting started in Pakistan and the Swat Valley, and just about ready to move into Afghanistan with more troops. These are the battles he doesn't want to inflame with the release of the photos, IMO.

I agree they should be released eventually, however.

13. Anyone else thinks Obama is taking heat of the Generals now to get support from them on DADT?
THe guy always seems to be playing chess, I just wonder if he has something in mind with this.

I think they're right and you might be on to something...that would be third idea. I thought he was also buffering himself a bit from backlash in the redacted papers coming out soon.

Also did you hear the presser? He said that the photos would be used in prosecutions.

14. Well then you might as well say Never - cause that's when we're leaving
at least not anytime soon. We need to get the fuck out of Afganistan anyways. The courts ruled to release them but lord obama knows better huh? (sorry couldn't resist sneaking one in there) but no, i'm not mad at you.. i'm mad at obama for lying to us, AGAIN, and the courts already ruled they should be released. Jonathan Turley and Rachael were talking on her show how it might be a situation where... oh nevermind i'm done argueing this. RELEASE THE PHOTOS AS PROMISED. Period. Accept no excuses - espescially one's related to never-ending-wars!!!

17. I'll believe it when I see it
You mean the investigation he's conducting right n.... oh wait, there's no investigation!!! Nice try. You can release them and still use them in investigations. Or make a compromise with the ACLU to release some with the understanding that others are to be held back for investigation. I just don't buy it. I've seen no move by Obama to have any investigation and the main reason he gave was that it would put the troops in danger. Bullshit! Putting them in Afghanistan (remind me - why are we there again?) is what puts them in danger. Putting them in ENDLESS wars puts them in danger. Fighting in countries with no real objective other than securing oil puts them at risk. I.Just.Don't.Buy.It. Not anymore.

18. but aren't you concerned by the fact that those who were tortured in Iraq have families who know?
therefore the story is already out there in Iraq. Not releasing these pictures bolsters Al Qaeda's message to all Arabs that no American of importance will pay for these crimes and the only way to obtain justice is insurgency? on balance what increases danger to all our troops ? what may cause a prolongation of US troops in Iraq?

19. Effectively, these war crimes get are concealed because of the Iraq War, a crime in itself.
Now I'm dizzy.

But I agree, of course.

This is the crap our President has to deal with.

We're lucky he's in charge, I trust him.
