Gitmo, or the US..todays decision limits all other options
Edited on Wed May-20-09 09:13 PM by Peacetrain
They voted against giving funding to close Gitmo today.. 90 to 6 , last week it was the House of Reps.

Reid and others do not want the combatants on US soil, because they will turn the rest of the prisoners in any prison into terrorist.. (never mind we already hold terrorists)

Well guess what, no trials on American soil to either free the prisoners of Gitmo or release them, leaves us only one thing.. Military commissions to move the prisoners out.

Now people do not want cleaned up commissions either.

Do not want them on American soil for criminal trials.

But wait:

Official: Gitmo suspect to be sent to NY for trial

By DEVLIN BARRETT, Associated Press Writer Devlin Barrett, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON – A top al-Qaida suspect held at Guantanamo Bay will be sent to New York for trial, an Obama administration official said Wednesday, a major step in President Barack Obama's plan to close the detention center by early next year. Ahmed Ghailani would be the first Guantanamo detainee brought to the U.S. and the first to face trial in a civilian criminal court.

An official, speaking on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to disclose the decision, told The Associated Press the administration has decided to bring Ghailani to trial in New York. He was indicted there for the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in Africa — attacks that killed 224 people, including 12 Americans. It was not immediately clear when the transfer would occur.

2. I sit in my chair, with my chin almost to the floor I am so stunned
I am developing a permanent .. what the heck? that is preceding nearly every statement I make anymore.

If we can move one Gitmo combatant into the US to stand trial, but we cannot move the rest.. yikes

3. Actually the President doesn't need the money allocated

He just brings them into the judicial system as he sees fit.

The Supreme Court has already ordered some of these actions anyway.

4. See what happens when Obama makes decisions, like closing Gitmo
The party leaves him. No political backing. So again why should he release those photos? The Democrats in Congress, never have the guts to stand up to Republicans on National Security
