Hmmm, suspicious timing: 4 arrested for attempted terror attack in New York
Edited on Wed May-20-09 10:13 PM by Old Hank
This is a very weird story.

The FBI arrested four men in New York City on Wednesday evening in an alleged plot to detonate a bomb outside a Jewish temple and to attack an Air National Guard Base in upstate Newburgh.

but read further and you will learn that these men had been investigated for the whole past year, but just happened to be arrested today, at the same time that President Obama announces that a Guantanamo terrorism suspect will be tried in New York.

The message here seems to be clear: Look out, New Yorkers! Obama is wrong to try a terrorism suspect in your state because look how bad these terrorists are! See?! See?!

Why weren't they arrested last week? Or last month? It had to be today! How convenient.

2. Did we arrest anyone since 2001 except for some wantabes?
Let's face it, if anyone wanted to plant a bomb in any unguarded place, they could do it in a New York minute. No pun intended. I also think this report is a lot of crap.

5. Why suspicious?
The article makes a lot of sense. New York can handle this if even if it were the case -- Why would they pick a State like that to fear monger the Gitmo/detainee issue?

I may be missing something here. If people were looking to do a freak out-- MY would be a wrong place. Maybe Oklahoma... but I just don't think NY. The article says that this was a 4 year investigation, I would think it is a good thing that this did not happen... no?

6. Huh. I was thinking how this story shows you don't need to torture to fight terrorism.
But you're free to interpret it how you want.

11. This is a bad thing??
Would you rather they not have gotten caught and blew up a couple of subways instead?

I'm glad they were arrested. Sometimes investigations take more that the usual 60 minute CSI variety.
