Did the WH set a trap?

An Unfavorable View of Cheney
As former Vice President Dick Cheney prepares to give a major speech today on national security, a new CNN/Opinion Research poll finds that 55% of Americans have an unfavorable opinion of him while 37% have a favorable opinion of Cheney.

With President Obama giving his own speech this morning, it almost makes you wonder if the White House set a trap for the former vice president.

1. Dick Cheney's had high negatives for years. I think he's proud of them because he thinks
it makes him a Man of Principle rather than a shameless political opportunist.

2. Apparentlly that 37% favorable for Cheney represents an increase of about 8% since he left office.
So you have to give him some credit - he's getting some traction.

5. What I am saying is, don't think this is over by a long shot.
We think Cheney is half joke and half evil. but what he still is, is a threat.

8. First of all,
I think the 37% figure is waaaaaay generous. Secondly, I don't think anybody in the WH is underestimating him. In case you haven't noticed, Rahm is there and he is as Machiavellian as they come.

If Cheney is a threat, he is also a target for everybody except the shrinking RW base and an object lesson as to what happens when you stay in undisclosed locations too long. People forget that you are anything but a peevish old man who jumps out to spew hate and fear. Kind of like an evangelical with a cloven hoof.

The economy is still in the shitter, and people are still very worried about jobs. Eating and having a place to live tends to focus one's mind on the present moment. There is little room left in the fear box for people to dump anything that Cheney says.
