Cheney's Rising Approval Numbers?
I saw this headline on CNN this morning and it took me aback. After giving it some thought the best I could come up with (if it's not an out-lier) is that it's a coalescing of "the bottom third" around Cheney and the Bush Administration now that they are out of power.

Still, an 8% rise seems high, especially given his previous negatives and increased visibility as of late. Has anyone seen any other numbers that confirm this approval rate increase or dismiss it as an out-lier?

1. I think increased visibility would likely be the reason...
... for any increase in Cheney's approval ratings.

2. For most people I'd agree ...
... but Cheney? People genuinely don't like that guy, and that's not even being partisan.

4. Bush's approval ratings went up 6% as well. People are nicer to them now that they are no
longer running the country.

per Politico (yeah I hate them but they have this good point):
Is Cheney's uptick due to his visibility as one of the most outspoken critics of the Obama administration? Almost certainly not," Holland told CNN. "Former President George W. Bush's favorable rating rose 6 points in that same time period, and Bush has not given a single public speech since he left office."

7. Your assessment is exactly right.
Both Bush's and Cheney's numbers went up.

I tend to see it as older or low-info voters just being nice since they are out of office.

People could also be answering the question like "Yes, I have a higher opinion of them now that they are out of office."

The tiny jump is meaningless and won't rise any further.

10. It's simply a reflection of those disaffected voters who can't accept that there party lost
power. I think it's those people who are susceptible to the Bush/Cheney propaganda.

5. It's Wiffle Ball Tony syndrome.
Folks love Wiffle Ball Tony as long as he's not running things, cause otherwise he's harmless.

6. Hillary Clinton's did the same thing...
after the primary was over (and especially after the election) her approval numbers were much higher.

9. What difference does it make what his approval rating is???
Is he running for public office? Is he still the VP of the U.S? Who gives a shit??? Cheney is trying to save his own ass. Period. Every lie, rationalization and spin is toward that end. Fuck Cheney.
