Judging by Jon Stewart, Cenk Uygur, and Rachel Maddow last night...
I am so glad that we're actually making a concerted effort to keep this Democratic president accountable for his actions in just the same way that we kept the Bush Administration on its toes.

K&R to Jon Stewart, Cenk Uygur, and Rachel Maddow!

1. Absolutely!
This is no time to roll over for a tummy rub by O -- he has to be held as accountable by us as George W. Bush was for 8 years.

Anything less is unacceptable.

28. "tummy rub by O"???
Is that supposed to be the latest swipe at people who don't quite share some people's alarmist views on Obama?

"he has to be held as accountable by us as George W. Bush was for 8 years."

 I mean,

Seriously though, I agree with you that we need to hold him (and all future Presidents) accountable for their actions but don't expect everybody to "stroke out" about EVERYTHING that he does that some people may not agree with.

34. Oh get over it
Edited on Fri May-22-09 09:14 PM by Reterr
Its like if anyone around here says anything about Obama that isn't uber respectful and reverential every single time, some people here get their panties in a bunch (and I am not talking about calling him an asshole/liar etc.-I agree that is over the top). But in general people don't have to sound reverential to the nth degree every time they talk about the guy.

What the hell is the big deal about someone saying "tummy rub by O".
He is a politician-some days he is ok, some days he is fucking annoying. People can be Dems and not fall over themselves with pride and reverence every time they talk about him.

It just seemed like kind of a funny/weird thing to say. Well, I guess I'll make sure that I "roll over and get my tummy rub from O" and "fall over with pride and reverance" everytime I talk about him.
Obama=God All hail President Obama!!!!!

40. No, it's the screaming, fact-free psychosis that people object to.
"isn't uber respectful and reverential every single time"

Bullshit. It's not about "reverence," or even criticism. It's that a whole hell of a lot of DUers have simply gone rabid to try and find something that they can smear and hate Obama over, whether it has any basis in reality or not, to the point of COMPLETELY making shit up.

Obama made an active policy proposal and someone criticized it. Care to explain how that is "bitching because he hasn't done everything everyone wants in the first 100 days"?

Cenk and Daily Show are next on my list to watch. Thanks for the links Fearless! Disregard the haters (or Obama cheerleaders which I refer to them as) you are spot on about how we must try and keep whoever is president honest and doing the right thing, regardless of whether that person has a (D) or an (R) in front of their name. All of us want Obama to do well, but we should never be afraid to speak our mind when we think he's going down a wrong path. He's a big boy - hell he's President - I think he can take it. :D

20. i watched the daily show last night
and regarding the segment on Obama's gitmo speech: how is taking basic phrases that would be uttered in a national security speech by pretty much any American president of the last 50 years, presenting the shocking revelation that both Obama and Bush have used them, and thus concluding that the message of Obama's speech was the same as Bush's on gitmo, an awesome effort at holding the Obama administration accountable? OMG they both said that the first and last thing they think about in the morning and at night is keeping America safe, and that they want to defeat terrorist networks?!? The similarity is shocking indeed.

23. i guess i disagree that
making a simplistic and disingenuous argument constitutes holding anyone's feet to the fire. Stewart might do a good job of holding people's feet to the fire otherwise, but that wasn't it. His most substantive points last night were about Cheney, if he'd made an equally sound argument about Obama's speech it would have been great.

33. It's amazing how a lot of people lately are acting as though Obama=Bush
O.k., I have an issue with the whole "preventative detentions"- that DOES seem kind of Bushian and I hope he figures out a better way to handle cases for which that may be considered but I have little doubt that he and his administration are trying to figure something different out. Obama IS, contrary to Bushco, intent on closing down Gitmo, even in the face of strident opposition of some NIMBY Dems in Congress. I was kind of concerned that he might cave after the Dems showed him up by denying funds for closing Gitmo, but, no, he RE-AFFIRMED his commitment to closing Gitmo and I have little doubt that he will follow through with that by next January. He is exhibiting moral and political courage that some of his fellow Dems like Reid can only dream of and neither Bush nor Cheney could ever touch his integrity and level of respect for the Constitution with a ten-foot pole.

24. Stewart did nothing but show both Obama and Bush saying the same harmless phrases. It's like both
of them using the phrase "God Bless America." And if you watched the whole show, he also praised Obama for the parts of his speech where he talked about the need to follow the Constitution, etc.

And Maddow is one-note Rachel lately, mischaracterizing everything Obama or Gibbs says.

OK-I disagree with him on not stopping firings of gay people from the military while the ending of DADT is being worked out, that he doesn't support/praise the states that chose to allow gay marriage, and, um, that he hasn't achieved world peace yet? I guess I can only give you two. The third, of course, is a joke.

Jon Stewart in particular is nobody's stooge and he is going to make fun of and deride Obama just as much as he did Bush if Obama's policies suck.
The whole "Bush left me this mess." is only going to tide him pover for so long and with so many people.
And a significant chunk of younger people actually care about what Stewart says. Obama can count on no one but a bunch of sweet but naive older people like my mother in law who will say "Somehow he fills me with so much confidence. He has a secret plan I feel. His speeches sound so nice." if he continues to disappoint his base. I want more from a Dem leader than that they are better than perfectly insane people like Palin and Bush...

It works out so well for some of these party loyalist morons to just say "Oh so you like Bush and Palin."
No you complete morons, but I also don't want someone who is marginally better than Bush. "Oh but what other option is there?"

I don't know...maybe while the Dems have significant majorities let them know how you actually feel about a lot of their lousy fucking policies. I swear the DLC/"pragmatist" Dems are some of the biggest fucking morons one has on the nominal left. I actually don't think the DLC Dems are bad people.
I think one of the biggest fallacies about DLC type Dems out there is that they are cold/bad people/heartless etc.
They generally don't seem very bright, but I do think most of them do mean well. But dear God, talking to them is often like talking to slightly brighter strain of Freeper.
