You know what I love about this Pelosi kerfuffle?
Edited on Fri May-22-09 03:27 PM by PretzelWarrior
It does a few important things:

Number 1, the person who is standing up and calling these criminals what they really are--LIARS!--is untouchable. Pelosi certainly isn't going to lose her district, and she has enough of a majority in the house with solid support of the president and others around her to mean she is a firm lock on remaining Speaker of the House. Sooo.....the ineffectual missiles will continue to fly toward her instead of Obama or others.

Number 2, it is keeping this issue of torture and accountability front and center. If the GOP dipshits are soooo fucking worried about what Pelosi knew and when she knew it, shouldn't they also be 100 times more worried about what the administration was doing and why no moves were made by congress to stop them even though the Republicans held the majority in the House? It actually creates a nice logical trap where if they want to go after Pelosi then they HAVE to go after Cheney. That is obvious even for stupid fucks like GOP representatives.

Number 3, it allows President Obama to look conciliatory toward the past so he can marshal the political goodwill to get some of these important initiatives passed and hopefully turn things around economically and otherwise in this country by mid year next year.

3. I think the spotlight will turn to the SCOTUS nominee as soon as they are named
So, Pelosi will stay front and center until next week when the nominee will be announced.

5. it would be cool if Franken thing could be resolved before it ever goes before Senate
so no matter what the Republicans say....they have to deal with it.

Oh, and Jeffrey Toobin's article on the stealth radical Chief Justice Roberts was depressing. We'll need more than a replacement for Souter to bring any kind of balance back to the court.

19. I haven't read Toobin's article...
Is it about his influence during Bush v Gore?

I'm going to find the article. I enjoyed his book, The Nine.

4. Pelosi's a red herring.
They're not going after Pelosi, they know she's untouchable. They're just trying to drum up anti-Democratic animosity to get a foothold for the 2010 elections.

It's analogous to their character assassination of Clinton 1992-94.

7. good luck on that one, GOP. For every finger they point, there are 4 pointing back at them.
that is the only small consolation of the Dems years in the wilderness. The GOP owns all of this shit pile.

14. the republicans need some focus person or point to aim all their vindictiveness at.
they can't aim it at obama right now, and pelosi is probably as good as a clinton in getting the base riled up.

9. It's dark, and he wants some company.
Throw him Dougie Feith, first. Trent Lott might also be interested.

18. Just send Bush around with him...
Bush can use his pooper-scooper and bag to clean up after Cheney, 'Course Bush will need a much bigger pooper-scooper and a much bigger plastic bag - maybe a box of trash bags!

10. Number 2
The republicans just don't seem to realize that they are just putting more light on an issue they'd like to go away. They keep drawing attention to themselves at a time when they would benefit more from obscurity as they try to rebuild their party.

Perhaps too many years of unbridled power has made it impossible for them to shut up, even when they don't have anything to say.

11. It is possible. They just don't seem to be acting like rational beings anymore.
I love how there's a war on between Kentucky's Jim Bunning and Old Granny McConnel.

I never thought I'd see the day. Everything they do or say just gets them in deeper. Eating their own is the icing on the cake.
