Obama - Organizing for America June 6th : Do 3 Platitudes constitute a healthcare reform "plan"?

http://www.barackobama.com/images/healthcare/OrganizingKickoffHostGuide.pdf
HEALTH CARE ORGANIZING KICKOFF HOST GUIDE

It is up to you to help organize around President Obama’s three principles
that any comprehensive health care reform must achieve:
(1) reduce costs,
(2) guarantee choice, and
(3) ensure all Americans have quality,
affordable health care.

We cannot wait for health care reform.
America needs it done by the end of this year.

That is why thousands of people just like you are organizing for health care
reform by taking the first step of hosting a Health Care Organizing Kickoff on
June 6.

At your organizing kickoff you will:
• Share personal stories related to health care issues
• Review President Obama’s Health Care Reform Principles
• Plan a local Health Care Day of Service activity the weekend of June 27.
• Establish three days before June 27 for contacting your neighbors to
tell them about the health care reform principles and invite them to the
day of service activity.
• Make the first round of calls to your neighbors to tell them about the
health care principles and invite them to the Health Care Day of Service.
• Develop relationships with other local OFA supporters.

Go ahead and read this for yourself at the link I have provided.

Who exactly would be against the "3 Principles of Healthcare reform"?
But, please, discuss.
Then share your stories about how crappy our current system is. Sign up to volunteer during "day of service" the week of June 27th
Collect names and pass them back to Obama Central.

When you have gone through this pointless exercise, perhaps you will feel that you "Shared" or that "Your Voice was heard"

This seems like a national pep rally advocating some detailess, unknown Obama Healthcare program. If Obama wants to promote a healthcare proposal with details and specifics, I would be there in a heartbeat. But what exactly is this crap?

1. Thank you, Phoebe. I'm with you on this. It would be nice to know what "reform" they are
referring to. I can't find out on the President's website or his re-election website. All I get are the same broad, non-specific appeals you have listed.

Recommend.

3. This was my question - what exactly ARE we supporting....
...because if it's not a public option at LEAST (or if not single-payer, universal public health care which is best) then I'm not interested and it's NOT "reform".

5. I got a similar email a week ago.
You know what, I'll be real busy watering plants or something all the rest of this year. But I'm sure they're getting all the support they need from insurance company lobbyists. Wake me up in the unlikely event that single payer advocates are invited to play a meaningful role.

7. Which reminds me of the "Divided We Fail" ads of about a year or so ago
Go to the website and discover after much poking around that this is really AARP who SELLS INSURANCE!!! Sure, go to the site and spill your guts and give personal information while they cynically decide if they can sell you something or not.

As you point out, the specific name harvest is what's important.

before Congress.

10. that is a fine use of the event - maybe the best one there is
Print up your own info ,etc. and pass it out.

I LOVE that! Especially since the Obama adminstration is so light on details of their own plan, as in IT DOESN'T EXIST

I am so behind this plan!

for Congress.

:)

There are already single-payer events listed on the Obama site.

I do not think they are all grouped together, so you might try searching by your zip code and then scrolling through the events.

13. It is, isn't it? I keep imagining if I asked friends to attend a meetingg
and then I read the 3 Bromides and asked them if they agreed or disagreed and to share their healthcare nightmares. My friends, I am sorry to say, are too smart to countenance a meeting like that.

Obama is gathering us to garner support for . . . . . . . .WHAT?

15. DU has become a den of complainers....
This used to be a great site for getting a handle on what was going on in the political world. Now it is just full of complainers. President Obama is rallying support for health care reform. IF you really want to know what the plans are then go to the meetings, take part in preparing the plans, and voice your opinions instead of bellyaching all of the time. Easy to complain, not so easy to do the grassroots work! Just because many of us worked our butts off to get President Obama elected does not mean the work it over. The President is ONE man! He cannot do the work by himself. Geez! Health care reform is not going to be handed to you on a silver platter - we have to fight for it. Health care reform will only pass if the country demands it. Since you complainers are part of the people, I suggest you become actively involved in the process instead of taking the easy way out and continually bellyaching about everything. You should be ashamed of yourselves!

payer. That is undemocratic, just like the WH is with respects to them shutting out single payers.

21. It is not health care reform without a public option.
No matter how many parties Obama wants held. It will be bogus reform.

Obama needs to support single-payer health insurance, and forget the smoke and mirrors.

People are acting like they want to be spoon fed a ready-made plan instead of participating in creating it.

29. You got a point.
I find it a bit disturbing that he basically will just let Congress come up with the plan details. Same as with the stimulus package and budget. Those critters are just licking their chops to get their hands on it.

As for June 27, it's just another feel good rally.

31. Those aren't principles, they're soft evaluation criteria
And of course they're mostly just advertising.

But let me ask... is there anyone here who didn't expect this president to do advertising?
