Is there some RW propaganda going around about Michelle Obama wearing white to D-day ceremony?
This letter was in the Lancaster Sunday News this morning (Lancaster, PA). This county is right-wing central. But I can't figure out where this is coming from (and what it means). Can anyone help me? My googling hasn't turned up any winger conspiracy theories.

Here's the letter:

Disrespectful

Just what was Michelle Obama's sharp legal mind thinking when she wore white to the D-Day ceremonies? Perhaps it was a purposeful show of disrespect? I hope not, but I'm not so sure. Think about it. In the same time frame when her husband is wooing and showing respect to Muslims, she chose to do such an un-American thing as this.

I am the daughter of a World War II veteran. I have countless friends who served in that conflict, and I am a proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

I know there are many who think this just doesn't matter. You are wrong.

2. White as a color of mourning goes back in Western and Christian
traditions all the way back to the 14th Century.

15. Yup...it's also found in East Asian cultures as well as the colour of mourning.
And not recommended at some weddings.

3. Is she referring to this?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/06/06/michelle-obama-and-carla_n_212148.html

And this looks to be the arrival ceremony, not the actual memorial service.

And it seems that the writer is not bothered by Carla Bruni wearing all white too.

Here are the pictures of the actual ceremony. Carla Bruni is wearing a white dress as well. And the picture on the bottom reveals another woman wearing white, and some kid in a lavender polo shirt.

7. after seeing the pictures, here's what I think
The skirt is a bit short, the shoes are a bit hoochie for the occasion. I don't want to see any First Lady's thighs at a memorial ceremony.

This isn't hard. Just be modest when the occasion calls for it.

And I agree only about the shoes -- they look more cocktail party than memorial service.

STFU

Thank you.

Michelle Obama has done more for the troops in 6 months than the Monkey and Laura did in 8 years.

Kindly, blow me please.

6. Why, Why, Why?
Why should it matter what Michelle Obama wears to a ceremony. For cryin out loud, it's a remembrance ceremony, not a wedding. She wasn't upstaging the bride. I wonder if this same woman would have had the same problem with Dick Cheney going to the same kind of ceremony dressed as if he just came in from shoveling snow? I can't remember which concentration camp the ceremony with Dick Cheney took place.

8. Sorry, but someone will have to enlighten me here
Perhaps I am just too young to know this, but what would be disrespectful about wearing white? I mean, sure its a wildly impractical color given the stainage potential, but I'm pretty sure that shouldn't be a problem for anyone but the White House laundry room?

That's why I thought it had to be a parroting-back of something Rush or Beck or some other RW buffoon said. These folks can't think for themselves; so, I was just wondering whether anyone here was familiar with some RW eff-head starting this nonsense. Or, it might just be a lone nut who thinks she's the fashion police. Hey, Ms. Stoltzfoos ... your prayer covering is too tight!!!

14. Just one of those arbitrary laws of fashion
Half of 'em evolved out of centuries-old court dress or something equally inane, but people treat them like they're universal codes of behavior that we need to follow even today.

Nowadays they're just reasons to look down on people who don't do as you want them, pretty much. Anyone complaining about something along those lines (as opposed to, say, doing a State of the Union in a Speedo or something) is just looking for things to be upset at.

12. Sorry folks. That's just old fashioned! I remember my mom
buying a special "black dress" for my dad's mother's funeral viewing and the service. We didn't really have much money, but it was "imperative" that the family of the deceased wear BLACK and she didn't have anything like that. I was 12 yo! and I thought it was stupid then and still do! I don't think it would be a great idea to wear red of some bright yellow, but white is a non color and is fine anywhere.

are also wearing white.

It's just some right-winger trying to be outraged about something. Notice how the letter writer in the OP saying Michelle's wearing white is as un-American like President Obama's wooing of Muslims?

for her Obama hatred, as she also seems to be freaked out that the President is being nice to Muslims since her pea brain probably believes you can't trust any of 'em.

:eyes:

Re the general wardrobe anxiety, nitpicks like this are just silly to me. I remember some handwringing taking place when Prince Charles wore a navy blue suit to Princess Diana's funeral...until it was learned that it was her favorite.

26. I just have to wonder if this person raised hell when Reagan
placed flowers at the SS cemetery?

My dad, my stepdad, uncles fought in Europe too...if they were still alive, they would have recalled D-Day and the days that followed. They would have respected the president and his wife. The LAST thing they would have worried about is what the First Lady wore on during the ceremony.

If they would have thought about "white", it would have been the white of the crosses and Stars of David that remind us all of the sacrifices of that time.

And while I'm at it...a special Thank You to the French for keeping the Cemetery in such fine condition. The French know what sacrifices were made...apparently more so than some Americans...:patriot:

No vote of confidence

Rising taxes; troops deployed; businesses failing; no work to be had; socialism shoved down our throat; bailouts failing to do what was promised; crippling debt for us and generations to come; Washington spending at an all-time high; Clinton's administration revisited.

I just have one question to ask all those who voted for Obama: How's that working out for you?
