8. Amazing things happen when you fight an 8 year land war with your well-armed neighbor
The Iran-Iraq war bled a generation of Iranians white, the nation is disproportionately young, at least in part due to the brutal fighting during the 80's

13. I'm not sure that makes sense.
Since the vast majority killed in the war (which was only @.5 million in a population of 80 million) were in their reproductive years, I'd think that would indicate a reduction in the numbers of the next generation.

If anything, it was due to the dismantling of the social structure by the revolution, which had a deleterious effect on the older generation - the educated, pro-west elites fled, the hospitals were understaffed, and the upper end of the demographic died early for lack of good senior care.

14. The government urged the people to repopulate
And repopulate they did. With a vengance. HUGE families, but now it causes all sorts of social problems. Everyone trying to get entry-level jobs and all that.

11. That's been the case for a while now
This isn't the first time the younger generation has rebelled.

Unfortunately the last time they did they were crushed.

Then Bush invaded Iraq and everything went on hold.

Here is hoping this time they are successful.
