Gore to Rally House Democrats Thursday on Energy Bill.

Former Vice President Al Gore will meet with the House Democratic Caucus at lunchtime Thursday as part of the larger effort to build support for a scheduled vote this week on an energy and climate change bill.

A notice was sent to rank-and-file House Democrats late this afternoon for the members-only meeting. Gore is one of the world’s most prominent advocates on combating global climate change. He will also appear at an afternoon press conference on Capitol Hill.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been a leading proponent of the legislation that is widely opposed by House Republicans. In a memo to his colleagues Tuesday, House Minority Leader John Boehner of Ohio advised the Republicans to vote against the bill, suggesting it will be one of the “defining debates” of the 2010 elections.

A vote is scheduled for Friday, but the House could stay in session in to the weekend if necessary.
