Edited on Mon Jul-20-09 02:41 PM by tblue37
of her these days she seem so be so happy she is almost glowing. I think she finally feels that she has a reasonably expansive arena for her talent and intellect, which she was forced to keep subservient to her husband's political career for so long, and which had only a limited arena as junior senator from New York in a legislative body where seniority is everything.

The SoS is, of course, subordinate to the POTUS, but it is nonetheless an executive position in its own right, in control of a large government department, and I believe she has blossomed there.

is ridiculous. She is a member of a team and executing the policy that the White House determines.

Plus, a "minor" diversion of a broken arm that prevented her from traveling.

In before emilyg. Damn, Beacool beat me here, or it would've been IBEGBC. Hillary does look damn good in that picture. I agree that she's finding that her mind and talents have found a greater scope at State, though I might have rather seen her as Senate majority leader rather than ineffectual Grampa Harry.

66. Yeah, I do have quite a head full.
Back in 1991, my dad, aged 71 at the time, was visiting me when I had to go to get my hair cut. The beautician complimented me on having such a head of thick, wavy hair. I said, "My 71-year-old dad at home has the same sort of hair--only his is still mostly black." (He was Sicilian.) He died the next year, with a full head of thick, wavy hair--still as much black as gray.

If you are ever in TN, I'll be happy to cook for you!

And I'll cook whatever you want!

I'd need to know your tastes before I told you my specialties, lol (I'm decent at preparing multiple dishes).

I always cook according to the tastes of my guests.

My preferences are chicken dishes and vegetarian dishes, but I can do fish and beef too.

When I cook for a friend, I usually give them a list of many things I enjoy cooking with, and then take what they tell me and cook the meal. I'd also ask them what style of cuisine they enjoy. So JUST for the main course, I might ask you what you like out of a list of ingredients, and then I'd go from there.

Of course I only do that for people I like... so of course you are included ;-)

I'm easy to feed, I'll eat almost anything. I'm well traveled and used to all sorts of foods. I'm sure that anything you made would be delicious.

Now, if you were cooking for Hillary, it would have to be something spicy. She loves Mexican and Indian food. She carries a bottle of hot sauce everywhere she goes and uses it quite liberally.

You sound like a great host. If I'm ever in your part of the country it would be an honor to eat one of your meals.

I might add that her policies re. State employees, especially extending benefits to partners of gay employees, are a big step forward. Plus, SoS is a good launching pad for a presidential campaign in 2016, should she decide to make the race. Better than being a senator -- now she's outside the congressional fray and not bogged down in puny Senate compromises.

38. A Clinton moment: the naked truth about Americans
By ROBERT BURNS (AP)

NEW DELHI — Americans as naked gladiators?

Indians as blissful beauties?

Those were the images — exaggerated a bit for dramatic effect — that U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton evoked Monday in a question-and-answer session with university students who probed her thinking on a range of topics — some personal.

It was a classic Clinton moment, engaging in what she calls public diplomacy to argue that Americans have more in common with people around the globe than is often suggested. She blamed the media — not just the news but also entertainment — for distortions.

"If Hollywood and Bollywood were how we all lived our lives, that would surprise me," she said with a tone of understatement. "And yet it's often the way our cultures are conveyed, isn't it?

"People watching a Bollywood movie in some other part of Asia think everybody in India is beautiful and they have dramatic lives and happy endings. And if you were to watch American TV and our movies you'd think that we don't wear clothes and we spend all our time fighting with each other."

The crowd roared.

73. First, men often are being complimented on their looks
especially if they lose weight, or something.

Second, there were so many hateful comments about her look during the primaries, on DU, on talk radio, on late night shows that it is a pleasure to see how radiant she is.

And when a person is confident and happy in what s/he is doing, it shows, and it generates goodwill among the ones whom she meets.

Do you have any examples of threads on men's looks here at DU?

She looks the same now as she did then. Now the primaries are over. Hillary and Obama look pretty much the same as they did back then.

Would you say the same about Sarah Palin? My point being that looks are irrelevant.

91. With all the talk about
Michelle's looks and clothes is that sexist too? I don't think so.......

Compliments are a good thing!

Lighten up!

65. She has aged beautifully
Edited on Mon Jul-20-09 09:27 PM by Blasphemer
She's one of those women who looks better when they are over 50 than they did in their youth. Blythe Danner and Helen Mirren also come to mind.

77. I agree.
She's looking great and so are Blythe and Helen. I'm a big fan of these ladies. I also like Judi Dench a lot, three great actresses.

:-)

74. How sad that you are so bitter
and determined that "the same" people who praise Hillary go after the Obamas. What, you are keeping a note book with marks who is saying what? Perhaps even rushing to U every post of those of us, evil people, who like Hillary?

How pathetic.

85. I'm not bitter at all...
I'm just being superficial like the rest of you. You start a thread about her look so I'm giving MY opinion of her looks.

No-I'm not keeping a notebook. My memory just WORKS and I'm able to read and remember people's posts/threads and it's to the point where I know if I see certain names, I know before I click on their threads/posts whether they'll be positive or negative.

What's pathetic are superficial threads like this one.

I'm just stating a fact about people's appearances since this thread is about someone's appearance.

84. I don't think her looks are the most important thing about her...
But it is a nice picture of her. I don't know if she's using fillers, Botox, etc...but if she is it's not crazy looking or anything, IMHO. She still looks pretty natural. If she's using them, it's not being done with too heavy a hand.

Now Joan Rivers...that's a problem!!

I did not support her Presidential campaign, but I hope she is happy today with her life and I wish her well.
